You seem to be one of those guys who has delicate wiring. (That isn’t meant to be insulting, btw, it’s just the best way I know how to describe it) There must be some genetic component to how we individually respond to medication, but we’re probably a decade away from really nailing that down. And I’m sure that’s very frustrating. Just need to keep grinding away and trying to find what works and what doesn’t, right?
You’re not wrong, I chalk it all up to probably just genetic weakness. The wild side effects of TRT and other various drugs, suppose even needing TRT in the first place. Genetically, my body strives to be 140lbs or under and rail thin without much muscle or fat, ie. weak, lol. I also came with a super rare benign birth defect; 1/2" round patch of missing dermis on my scalp (which is why having hair to cover that shit is important). Like 1/10,000 births. Bit of a misfit.
Maybe my mother drank heavily…
Well it’s probably all over for me as far as I got some labs and I have elevated platelets which could be cancer or infection or others but it can also cause blood clotting, and TRT increases platelets. I’m trying to get ahold of my urologist I’m fairly sure he will tell me to stop taking TRT and I will have to follow that advice.
One day when I injected myself in the hip I bled like a mofo I suspect it may be related but I don’t know for sure.
Honestly the TRT is the least of my worries. I’ve already had prostate cancer now maybe another cancer or something else. Fun times.
It elevated recently, or was always elevated?
I just found out last night got the bloodwork friday. Never was elevated before. Never even heard of platelets or just ignored them before because they were normal. Couldn’t sleep so went to ER they couldn’t test platelets but I was referred to a cancer center and I called them and they’re setting up an appointment for me. So more tests coming before I know what it is but it could just be that TRT increased it. I can’t picture staying on TRT.
Can you post your CBC?
I’ve only been on TRT for 3-4 months. I went and bought 5 mg of melatonin because it’s suposed to lower platelets.
Maybe go to hematologist first.
If you think it’s due to trt get you can lower dose and retake cbc Before you go to a specialist who will most likely tell you to get off trt.
Was you cbc normal pre trt?
Maybe also do iron panel and ferritin. And metabolic panel to check liver function.
If you go to a specialist am sure they will run these and more. Theres test that check blood clotting as well
I looked but can’t find any records of past CBCs. I think my urologist did one before giving me testosterone but their website sucks and doesn’t show the results. I will have to get it from them.
In addition to melatonin I also bought 50 mg iron today but I was eating 2 steaks a week for several months and eat lots of green leafy vegetables. The only thing I can think of is I drink like a gallon of green tea a day and I think it removes iron.
As far as the testosterone I’d rather just let my urologist decide what to do but he’s not there today.
Very rare for a man to need iron. I really would not take anything like that.
I would either lower dose or go to a hematologist.
What injection frequency are you on? Daily injections lower Hematocrit (I know yours isn’t elevated) for a lot of people.
In general, not spiking really high and having more stable T levels is probably healthier.
Someone in another thread recently said he had a drop of 600ng/dL between 1/2 way through the week and on the morning of his next injection (on a 1x/week dose), which means there could easily be a 1000ng/dL drop between 24h post injection (highest peak) and when you get your blood drawn.
You want to test trough levels to see your lowest point, but don’t assume that’s anywhere close to your levels throughout the week.
If you test at 1000ng/dL at the end of the week on a 1x/week injection protocol, you could easily be at 2000 ng/dL the day after your injection, which will probably have a negative effect of blood markers.
Just something to think about. I hope it’s not cancer. Good luck
Once a week 150, but TRT is just not the priority right now. But yeah I injected Wednesday morning and got blood work friday morning. I’ve already left a msg with my urologist and he will decide if I’m getting off TRT or staying or seeing him. I’ve been the type to try to skate around what doctors say but since I have had prostate cancer too I’m not going to this time. Just going to follow his advice.
I think that’s a good idea given your situation.
If you (and your dr) decide to stay on TRT I would move to daily injections from that point on and see if it makes a difference in your labs and how you feel.
Make sure you give it 8 weeks at least before concluding anything.
Good luck
its insurance, they only refill monthly, you can no longer get the 3 month vial.
I read this where people were asking about levels and someone had the same platelet level as me and said “is it dangerous” they were told no not to worry unless it’s 1000, mine is 490 highest normal is 400. I have no idea if the people telling them this are medical experts but I’m hoping it’s not as bad as I originally thought. I know nothing about platelets.
I’ve seen several of your posts on this and really feel for you, I can’t imagine what you’re going through with that history and now having to wait. However I offer some unsolicited advice, trawling the internet and lifting forums is not going do any good for your mental state during this difficult time. Wait for your oncologist appointment and get real expert advice and until then try not to read too much into any of this.
Best of luck.
How can excessive bleeding be related to increased platelet count?
I’ve already explained I’m not educated about platelets instead of asking condescending questions why not educate. I didn’t know this was a forum where people were trying to be doctors and you had to know the ins and outs of bloodwork my bad. It could be related to blood being too thick which could cause blood clots if I’m wrong state otherwise instead of stupid unnecessary questions.
Thanks
There’s some really cool people on this site but there’s also some that aren’t. I could live with that but I’ve always gotten some very bad advice on this site and I only now realize this. So I think it’s in my best interest not to come here anymore.
