No you are wrong, they are not awesome! They are monsters!
Did someone say monster? I give you the orchid mantis!
It may look cute…and pink but I quote Wiki
"Sexual cannibalism is common among mantises in captivity, and under some circumstances may also be observed in the field. The female may start feeding by biting off the male’s head (as they do with regular prey), and if mating had begun, the male’s movements may become even more vigorous in its delivery of sperm. Early researchers thought that because copulatory movement is controlled by a ganglion in the abdomen, not the head, removal of the male’s head was a reproductive strategy by females to enhance fertilisation while obtaining sustenance. "

You guys have reminded me of the big fuck-off green caterpillar that scared the crap out of me in my tomato plants. Thing had a head the size of my thumb and was about 5 inches long and aggressively banged its head on a stick I used to try and poke him off the plant. shudder I love caterpillars too–usually.
I tossed one of those into a pool of hungry bluegill once. It was bad ass watching those buggers tear that thing to pieces.

My favorite insect!!!
I used to collect them when I was a kid and i’d hand feed them the big black field crickets.
i realize this has turned into an insects/monsters thread buuuuut im scared of dark bathrooms. I will not enter one. If my electricity goes out i pee outside.
I have a strong fear of people whispering in my ears. Don’t know why I’m so scared of it but when people get to close to my ears I’ll start leaning away without even realizing it.
