I used to have all the Iron Maiden shirts, and used to draw Eddie in class. They were hot in High School (80’s)
I went to high school in London back in the 80’s (dad worked at the American embassy). Saw Iron Maiden a few times at Hammersmith Odeon.
My frined and I used to go to the London Gold’s Gym. I was wearing my IM concert shirt (with the sleeves cut off of course) one day and the manager told me that Bruce works out there when he’s in town. Never saw him, but I guess the band was really into fitness. Unusual for an 80’s metal group. Wasn’t one of them on an Olympic fencing team or something?
Man one of my favorite bands of all time. I met Steve and Adrian outside the Memorial Auditorium during their Powerslave tour. I’m 5’8" and I felt pretty tall compared to those guys. Those guys are huge soccer fanatics.
Watching Steve Harris play bass is something one never forgets. thanks for the links! Great memories.

Bruce was into fencing, though I never heard about the Olympic part. He always stays fit and practices some sort of eastern or yoga breathing exercises, which is why his voice is still great.
I’ve seen 'em 8 times between 1981 and last year and he hasn’t lost his vocal power.
Steve Harris was my hero when I picked up the bass. He is absolutely amazing for a guy that doesn’t read music.

I’ve been a fan for 20+ years. Scary. That’s why I started a band of my own and went into heavy music in the first place.
Piece of Mind was my first TShirt and album.
Bruce was at one time almost at Olympic level in fencing. Of course he kinda had other commitments going on at the same time… like touring the world!

For some reason I thought I remember reading something way back when that Bruce was an alternate for the British Olympic fencing team. I’ll have to research that.
I always liked them, not just for the music, but for the fact that they were never obscene and were athletic (a lot of their videos show them playing sports). It was a great message when Ratt, Ozzy, Motley Crue, VH, and all the rest of the “metal” bands were all about getting stoned/drunk and stupid (not that there’s anything wrong with that once in a while).
I always thought it funny how they took a lot of flak over their song “666”, like they were satanic. When in actaulity, the song is a more of a summary/warning of Revelations.
Not impressed with the new video. I don’t think it will be a successful return.
I’ve already pre-ordered my deluxe copy plus shirt from the Iron Maiden website. I like what they are doing as a build up to the release with the Benjamin Breeg website.
I plan on going to see them in Oct. in Chicago.

You must be in sac, seen maiden there and at the cal expo ampitheater a couple of times, great shows each time

Damn, Bruce is looking old. Didn’t like the song very much, although you can tell it’s Iron Maiden from miles away.

Check out his albums Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding. I can’t recommend them enough. Better than anything Maiden’s put out in years IMO (and I love those guys!).

Thanks, I will be sure to check them out. Maiden is one of the few constants on my workout MP-3 player.

their new album is all about intra and inter human conflicts. very fitting considering the state of global societies. average length of the 10 songs on it is over 7 minutes long and it is not fluff. yes they still have the 3 guitars. yes they still have sick story telling lyrics. laters pk
I love 'em, but let’s face it… the first two albums (with Di’Anno) were the best. Real gritty songs. Slowly downhill from there… I guess I just like Di’Anno better… but, of course, drugs fucked that all up.
Saw them a few years ago with two pals of mine (who are WAY more into Maiden than I). They had their amps up SO effing loud, you couldn’t really make much out unless you had earplugs (and we were not close to the stage by a long shot).
Bruce Dickinson publicly (on mic) chastised the audience between songs because he could smell pot smoke and asked for security to “check out this area here” pointing to a section about 4 or 5 rows back from the stage. My buddies and I thought that was pretty lame, even though we don’t smoke weed.
I don’t remember them playing anything off the first two albums, and we were generally pretty disappointed in the selection of songs they did play.
Finally, it was over pretty damn quick. The tickets weren’t cheap, we felt a little ripped off.
i’ve never had a bad experience at a maiden concert and i’ve seen them in small and big venues.
may favorite albums are the first 3 with bruce: number, powerslave, and piece. the first two were great also. a lot of people have not heard their last few albums in their entirety to really appreciate certain songs. I think people would be pleasently surprised. laters pk
