Iron Content in Liver Tabs?

Hey all, I’ve been using Uni-liver’s brand of beef liver for a while, usually popping 2 tabs with every meal (6-7 a day)

Then I came across this article:

http://www.elitefts.com/documents/gain_1_inch.htm

I’m curious, as to how much iron is in these tabs and what is considered an unsafe amount of iron in the blood stream.

Throughout out the morning and early evening I eat lean white proteins- eggs, chkn, turkey, tuna, salmon, etc. Come 7pm I have lean steak then at 1030 i down a buffalo burer.

with the amount of iron i’m taking from natural foods, is it really safe to pop 8-10 tabs each time with 5 meals?

I’m 6ft 205 lbs if that attributes to anything in regards to the number of iron in my bloodstream.

any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

The iron content should be listed on the label of the bottle.

What is considered safe/unsafe levels of iron probably varies on who you ask, and you can look that up online.

If you decide to go ahead with the mega dosing of liver tablets please check back in to let us know how it went.

It’s a good idea to have your iron levels checked regularly if you’re supplementing with something high in iron as too much can have nasty effects.

Donating blood regularly can help lessen the risk, however.

I believe the type of iron in liver tabs is non-heme iron, which is a lot harder to absorb. Could be wrong here, but I think you’re in the clear.

thanks for the help guys!!

The iron dosage is not listed in the nutrition profile K2000, If it was I wouldn’t have posted this thread.

I’ll research what you said Muscles and see what I can find.

I’m currently popping 4 with 5 meals. We’ll see what happens!

Thanks again!! any other help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Nah, it’s heme iron. I take the same ones.

It’s weird that Uni-Liver brags about how it’s “rich” in Heme Iron, but doesn’t list how much iron on the label.

Maybe another brand does list the iron content, and you can use that as a reference or make a conversion.

I take Beverly Ultra 40 beef liver tabs, usually 4 per meal x 6 meals or 3 per hour for 8-9 hours (along with amino tabs too)
The supplement facts on the back are:
serving size 1 tablet
Vit B-12 (as cyanocobalamin) 75 mcg (micrograms) 1,250% Daily Value
Liver (as 4x concentrate) 2600mg (milligrams) ** DV not established.

That’s it. Maybe just do the math, add up the mg into grams, and see what regular liver lists as?

It seems that heme-bound iron found in foods such as liver does not cause the overdose problems that inorganic iron added to supplements can readily cause.

In other words, excess iron doesn’t seem to be a problem with taking even vast amounts of liver tablets.

That said, I would avoid simultaneously using a product that has added iron. Which oddly enough, some bodybuilding products ignorantly have, but most don’t. Still you don’t know until you check. MRP’s can be culprits, as of course can multivitamin/multimineral products.

I use to take anywhere from 15 to 20 a day. No side effects at all.
Just to let you know. One of the side effects of to much iron. It turns your dookie black. If that happens stop taking any Iron supps.

hmmm, my dookie is already kinda black…maybe i’m already in trouble? haha!
