Im excited for you buddy. Im really interested to see how this goes for you.
Do you plan to stick with Muay Thai for awhile?? Is it hard on the body?
I have been doing BJJ for almost 2 years now, but feel that there is “something missing”, and I was complimenting checking out the Muay Thai gym in town. Time is an issue, but I was thinking I could maybe alternate with 2 sessions of one art and one session of the other art every week.
Thanks mate! I am finding it tough, but that’s what I love about it. Life these days is just getting easier and making people lazier so when I step into that gym I know that I’m going to get sweaty and be hurting but I have 6 other guys to suffer with me.
The people in the class are really cool and they all say that the 1st month is really hard on the body (especially legs) but after that you can really find your groove and start to focus on improving not just staying alive.
I plan to stick with it until I go to the Air Force. I can’t think of anything that will prepare me for it better.
For a striking discipline, I think it is definitely up there with the most effective. It is far harder and more practical than any of the karate practices I have been apart of and reminds me of boxing but with more weapons and options.
DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE RAVENCLAW HOUSE!!! MY FAVORITE HOUSE. I EVEN HAVE A FAN MADE VINEWOOD WAND MIMIC AT MY DADS HOUSE BECAUSE IM BORDERLINE OBSESSED. IM ALSO A SUBSCRIBER OF POTTERMORE.COM. THIS.IS.NOT.A.GAME. Lol
i do want to get a few things though.
I want the house crest, a mock of Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem, and some mimics of the horcruxes that Voldemort had. My husband on the other hand, is strictly Slytherin. Meh. I’ve grown on the whole family. Our entire house has they’re own respective team. My mom is hufflepuff, and my step dad is Gryfindor house lol.
And my favorite quote is from the sorting hat, who said:
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.
It’s the house of Madam Rowena Ravenclaw. Known for its students being of wit, wisdom, learning, and creativity.
The four masters of the houses of Hogwarts were actually very close. I just say “meh” when it comes to the Slytherin House just because of the sheer numbers of wizards and witches it cranks out that get tempted into delving into the dark arts. Of course it happens in other houses (rarely).
I don’t think you have to kill others to be a powerful witch or wizard.
The actual creator of the house, Salazar Slytherin used to be pretty close to the three house creators as well. They built Hogwarts from the ground up to escape the persecution of humans.
I find Hogwarts to be a school that actually gave a crap about the futures of its students. Even the Slytherin house gave a crap. As headmasters changed and folks with their crooked families came into play Slytherin just got a bit more iffy.
But each house has its own strengths and weaknesses. I’m just extremely fond of the Ravenclaw House.
There’s nothing wrong with being a Hufflepuff. They’ve got your back indefinitely. So it goes:
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil
Slytherin’s are pretty self preserving, and like the elements of fraternity. They’re pretty cunning, but that can get you far in staying alive, as this one goes:
Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.
Gryfindor’s are super cool too. Super chivalrous, and brave (although that can get them into trouble), which goes:
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart
Well just for fantasy sake, the Sorting Hat has been told to pick the characteristics that show up more frequently than others.
Take Peter Pettigrew for example. He was a Gryffindor, but had no signs of bravery or chivalry. He become a follower of Voldemort, and being apart of the Death Eaters. You could argue that’s a trait of self preservation as well which could be more worthy of him being a Slytherin, but we also have to take into account that most of them are placed into their respective Houses as children or young adults. That’s usually when they are finding themselves and beveloping character. Also, the Sorting Hat doesn’t make absolute decisions. If you request a change of houses, the hat will grant it to you, but it has to pick up on emotional and mental changes as you mature.
I exhibit great amounts of patience, usually by default. I’m pretty chivalrous, but I can be a bit cunning, espeacially with someone I deem as a threat, but above all else I have a knack for the Persuit of knowledge. My weird anxiety issues give me a weird charm of wit, just because I’m nervous, and I accept most aspects of the world and reality for what it is. So I’d probably be placed in the Ravenclaw House, however as I age I could very well be placed in HufflePuff or Gryffindor Houses.
Clinch Practice with chick dude (basically just got in clinch guard and kneed each other in the hips and ribs and thighs for about 5min, got bruises!)
Pullups (superset Dips)
BW 2x8 (BW 2x8)
Really good session. It’s the 1st time I walked out of there like a boss and felt really good. In all fairness, it was a slightly easier night than others have been.
Need to get better shoes, I’ve got constant shin splints from running 12km a week. It affects my footwork.
Leg Kicks on Pads - worked on technique (or my lack of) and talked a lot with the coach through this. I also got leg kicked by the Coach through the pad and I’m still feeling it. It was a soft kick from him but fuck!
Conventional Deadlifts
40kg x 6
80kg x 6
100kg 3x6
More technical tonight. We added leg checks to the pad sparring, I got swept off my feet while doing it and I really need to work on my stance switches and my knees and my left kicks.
Got a nice deep purple bruise the size of an orange on my hip from clinch knees last night. My shin splints are really barking after so much running and my right shoulder is starting to be a dickhead from all the punches. Need to purchase a band to do pull aparts in training and I need to purchase better shoes to run in.
Um positives… I’m still loving getting the shit beaten out of me and being able to throw big wild kicks all night after a frustrating day!
I bought a M sized band to do pull aparts and face pulls and dislocates during Muay Thai training. I’ve been picking it up randomly over the weekend and repping pull aparts. Makes my shoulders feel nice.
I was at a mates place watching the McGregor v Mayweather fight and got to chatting about my recent martial arts regime. Apparently my mates brother used to train a lot with my coach and he holds him in very high esteem. Heard some pretty cool crazy stories about him in his club bouncing days as well. Where I train is apparently ‘the place to learn how to fight’ in my town. I’m not surprised to hear it, but it is really good to hear.
This coming week I’m going to try and put a weighted compound movement at the end of my Muay Thai session. I have put my other gym on hold as I really haven’t had the energy to do other gym sessions lately. I won’t be focusing on gaining strength or doing anything strenuous, but I just miss squatting, deadlifting and pushing shit overhead.
Found out I was flaring my elbows too much so I did another
100reps of Push-ups
Absolutely no energy left to do any weights.
The new guy in the class isn’t really new. He had to take off 2+ months from training due to injury. Apparently he got an 8cm (3inch) rip in his Hamstring from a non padded leg kick from the coach! The rip sounded like a tarp being torn apart and his knee blew up 3x the size. Ouch!
Oh and I bought a new pair of $200 running shoes. Hopefully it will help settle down my splints.
