I always wonder why only “whites” are demonized for colonialism, slavery, the conquering of peoples. It’s a human thing.
White people are just the most recent ones to do it.
And perhaps the most “successful.” Technology. Still… It’s the cherry picking that’s so smelly.

Never been a fan of this. Crime is crime and separating it by race doesn’t help anything. Usually just a way for racists to make arguments. Fix the issues that lead to crime. But no one wants to invest in those things even though it would be cheaper than locking so many people up. Prisons good business for some corporations. What’s the incentive for fixing when rich people can profit?
It would be better to separate it by socioeconomic status. But that would tell a story that the racists won’t like.
It’s simply another version of Jim Crow to keep blacks disenfranchised.
Wouldn’t that essentially mean ignoring facts that don’t suit a particular narrative? Like we already have data showing that black men are more likely to be stopped by police and a disproportionate number of black men in jail, should we throw out those statistics too in the name of equality? Or are they acceptable because they demonstrate injustice while absolving them of responsibility?
This is another story. There are lobby groups funded by companies that own private prisons that push for things like longer sentences that result in more prisoners. Here in Canada most prisons are not privately run but there are a few, and in the last few years there have been some changes making it harder to get bail and reducing credit for time served awaiting trial that have resulted in the prison system becoming overcrowded. Oddly enough, we now have more shootings in Ottawa and Toronto since they made these laws.
I don’t view these as the same. Typically the “blacks commit more crimes” is spewed by racists and essentially solely them. I don’t often see that being pointed out followed by “so let’s invest in things to help these people out and lower that number!” The last thing those people would want to do is take tax dollars to help people out they despise or volunteer to help in impoverished communities.
Crime is crime and let’s work to reduce the factors that lead to crime is different than the second part to me although most of this is simply in how I see the data approached. And like zecarlo alluded to ignores the deeper issues of long term poverty issues and historical racial biases leading to those.
It also ignores how we get to those statistics in the first place. If some police are assuming crimes are being committed because of race they are more likely to look for that. If you stop white people more often and search them more often the White crime rate will likely go up and the black one go down.
Not to make excuses for any criminals in the least bit. Merely how we’ve arrived at the “fact” is important when studying it. One study had a black person as two times more likely to be pulled over and four times more likely to be searched. You start searching white people at that rate and I’m sure you’re going to see white crime drastically increase. Same article showed whites are more likely to have contraband than blacks or Hispanics. But again not everything is equal in searches by any means.
Poor whites commit more crimes than wealthier whites. Poverty is a more significant predictor for crime than race.

I really REALLY wish white liberals would stop thinking on behalf of, speaking on behalf of and pitying us. Y’all are the worst thing to happen to us since Jim Crow. This ain’t directed at you but you probably feel where im coming from.
My dad and mom met while my dad was stationed on Okinawa. Dad black mom Okinawan. Still married after 30 years. I graduated high school in Illinois and joined the Marines.
It’s about choices. Nobody holding us back but ourselves and white liberals.

Not me personally. I just see white liberals constantly trying to convince minorities of all these boogeymen allegedly holding us back yet they never take into account poor choices too many people are making too often. I do think some have good intention but it’s also very degrading and insulting to think we can’t help ourselves. Thanks for the conversation

My guess is, coming from a two parent household consiting of marine father and Japanese mother and immediately going into the Marines, that you’ve had a regimented life all the way through and really don’t know have life experiences applicable to the majority of civilians.
