You do realize the reception with the phone and the way it’s held it actually a BIG problem at the moment? And to show it was not a network problem a survey was done in the UK and 90% of people report having the same issue when holding the phone a certain way (out of 950 or so people).
Sadly, people just want the iphone becuase it’s an iphone. Even if the phone can’t make a call, it’s a status symbol.
I played with one a bit on Saturday. My friend who owns it showed me the antenna issue, to block both bars at the same time, which was the only way he could get the phone to have issues, was pretty awkward. Even when he blocked both bars, the call wouldn’t drop, you’d just not be able to hear the other party.

You see I don’t even have that issue, and I was told that a software update within the next week would correct it…
Some many complaints about service, but anyone who has the phone the I have spoken too has not mentioned a thing about this…I only hear good stuff…I think half the shit is jealousy…I just got my evo a month ago, I am stuck with it for the next 2 years, let me just pretend it shits on the iphone.
It’s strange that a software update would fix it, but entirely possible. It’s also weird that some phones have it and some not - since they all have the same software and hardware. It must have something to do with the reception, because I’ve read that NY doesn’t seem to be having as many problems.
I haven’t played with an Evo since we don’t get them here so I’ll have to take some of your word for it. Yes, I’m sure a lot of it is hate for Apple. Surely you can return an phone (Evo) within 30 days of purchase?

Yeah i’ve tried to re create the iphone signal block thing and have had it work a couple times but for the most part I cant really get the signal to drop… usually when it does drop its only one or two bars never full “no service” or anything.
all in all I love my new iPhone. Its super fast and the camera is ridiculously fast compared to the old one. I’ve heard rumors of the alleged software update to fix the antenna issue but I dont think its for real. From what I’ve read the best way to not experience the call drop thing is to get one of the bumper cases for it. I havent got one yet cause they only had black ones at the Apple store and I want to see what color ones they have.

Black or white or blue would look nice. Every other color clashes unless you have a white iPhone.

But I think the bumper is really elegantly designed. I would just add a Steinheil Crystal Clear cover for the front AND back, because Engadget proved the front/back covers ARE scratchable. I hate that Apple is charging $30 for what is probably $0.50 worth of rubber. Crazy mark up.
