It’s fantastic. It’s directed by Sean Penn and is based on a book (that I haven’t read). Basically its about a rich kid who’s angry at his parents and the world, so after graduating he gives away his life savings and buggers off with a back pack, heading for Alaska.
His intention is to live in isolation, in the wild, and basically figure out how to be happy. Along his journey he meets many different characters who are all kind of drawn to him and learn something from him, but at the same time help shape his views.
The soundtrack is great and the direction is stunning; some of the landscapes of America are shot so beautifully. What an amazing country just to head off with nothing but a backpack.
*SLIGHT SPOILER
I’ve read some people slagging the main character offer, stating that he is idealistic, selfish and thinks he has all the answers, which in many ways he is. But for me that doesn’t make it any less of a film. We are not supposed to think “wow this kid is so cool, everything he does is right.” He has a lot of intereting philosophy’s and ideologies but it is in the climax that he realises “the truth.” End of slight spoiler

I’ve found that this describes about 98% of the adult population in America. So I guess we are all hypocrites too.
I’ve heard about this flick, haven’t seen it though. Sounds like something I would enjoy. You might want to check out Ghost Rider by Neil Peart(drummer from Rush). It’s basically his diary about riding his motorcycle all over North America while trying to cope with the death of his wife and daughter. Definitely one of the greatest books I have ever read. No movie yet though.

The kid was weird. I went to HS with him. His sister was hot though. Much hotter than the actress who plays her.

Serious?
I guess you’d have to be pretty weird to go off and do something like that. Suicidal tendencies perhaps.
