I really don’t get the the hate this man receives. Every time I read a hit piece from some hack writer it’s clear to me they have not spent any time thinking about what he’s saying in any meaningful way. Matter of fact, most of the criticism I’ve read for him is largely an attempt at character assassination - an attempt to dissuade people from even trying to watch any of his videos, conversations or read any of his books.
Ya, it’s nuts. The man is very thoughtful and well-spoken and he makes his points well, but people don’t want to listen if it’s not in line with their thinking.
This person explains it pretty well.
Jesus, and I thought watching that interview was infuriating. Reading the exchanges was 10 x worse
“So what you’re saying is…” not even remotely what he was saying x 100. Awful. I think that was the first and only time I’ve ever been physically angry watching an interview.
Then I suggest you do not watch his appearance on the Bill Maher show - bunch of smug leftist pricks and him … it’s infuriating. Bill was the worst and I tend to … at the very least … appreciate Bill Maher more so than any other leftist douche
I think Cathy Newman was actually conducting herself professionally trying to defend her side. That’s because I think she’s pretty hot.
But, seriously, the problem comes when there are people with very obvious agendas trying to paint her as a victim after the event. What is painfully obvious is how low their opinion of their audience is. They really think they are fucking stupid.
See the comments.
When dealing with people like these, never shut them down. Let them play victims. Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.
The sad thing is that they will actually turn people off from some of the causes they are championing that are worth pursuing.
I’d argue some of them are painfully stupid. Not most, maybe a small to medium minority of them are knuckle-dragging troglodytes incapable of thinking their way out of a wet paper bag…
This is exactly why I’m an advocate for absolute freedom of speech - they’ll hang themselves with their own rope…
Not sure why that’s a sad thing. That’s exactly what should happen. Bad ideas ought to be turned away from - absolutely let the advocates attempt to persuade, let their arguments have the light of day, but under no circumstances should I be coerced into accepting a point of view I find inferior or abhorrent
Worded wrongly. I mean there are some legit causes that they’ve brought to light which are worth going more in-depth into but their overall behavior works against even these.
I went to go see JP speak in Minneapolis a few weeks ago and out of the 43 cities he visited(including San Fran,) Minneapolis was the only one with a protester. Fucking MN. .
JP was talking about Stalin and Hitler and how there was more blame to go around than just those two.IE you would have family members working for the government as spies basically and if you talked bad about the state, a member of your family would turn you in and you would be executed. The protester stood up from his seat and called us all Nazis and that JP was just going off talking points from the John Birch society. Everybody started laughing at the guy.
Films made by Chinapersons(lol):
One of the more realistic(but still toned down) depictions of life from the POV of ordinary people before, during and after the Cultural Revolution.
Yes, that’s the chick from Miami Vice. Both the director and her were banned from filmmaking for 2 years because of this movie.
One of the greatest movies ever made in any country. The 3rd act depicts very realistic public shaming and forced denouncements by the Red Guards. In real life, the director denounced his own father during the Cultural Revolution. It was banned in China until it won Palme d’Or at Cannes. The director was banned from filmmaking for 5 years.
Authenticity of the scenes depicted in these films were verified by people I know who actually lived through the Cultural Revolution. Things like doctors being sent to hard labor camps for being “over-educated” were real.
Jacko’s podcast is fantastic. It’s my go to podcast now. I’m listening to his interview of Dakota Meyer’s now (USMC Medal of Honor recipient). Yesterday I listened to his interview of Tim Kennedy (Green Beret & UFC Fighter). The interviews are just good and Jacko is the real deal (former Seal).
Thanks for the film referrals.
@ Cultural Revolution. This is a stunning article about Cambodia. People need to know and remember this history.
There are still land mines and unexploded bombs scattered around rural areas today.
This stupid fixation with marxism/socialism needs to stop. There are kids in my part of the world getting caught up in it now without knowing the real meaning of socialism.
All the atrocities which have been attributed to communism were actually a result of the period of socialism (Dictatorship of the Proletariat) prior to the transition to communism. No country in history has actually gotten to the communist stage although we normally refer to them as communist.
Not all socialists are communists but ALL COMMUNISTS ARE SOCIALISTS.
I love Theo Von’s podcast. Got to see him live at the Comedy store a few years ago when I was in LA and I rate him as in the top 5 funniest comics active these days. He had a Netflix special that only had 2.5 stars, back when they had stars. I thought it was hysterically funny, but I guess he isn’t for everyone.
He had Jordan Peterson on a few weeks ago and described Peterson as “the step dad that came along who actually cares about our mom.” Or something like that.
