Insult or Flattery?

So what did you say?

It isn’t just you. I was in Houston a couple of months ago. I pulled into a gas station (I was wearing a tank top) and was walking inside. These two kids were standing outside, maybe 12 years old, and one asks while making a flexing gesture, “Hey, is that weightlifting or from steroids?!”

To tell the truth, I thought he was being a smart ass so I gave him a “what the fuck?” look (half serious/half joking) and went in the store. It wasn’t until later that I thought he might have really been serious and wanted to know what it took to gain some size. This wasn’t exactly some Hallmark moment.

I would not be flattered. Are those making such comments co-workers? If so, and given your job, I would approach my employer and tell them of the accustations, and request (or at least offer) a voluntary drug-screening (steroids are, after all illegal); then I would ask them to take the strongest disciplinary action against those making unjustified, untrue, damaging comments. If your boss refused, go see a lawyer.

It’s bad enough being called a “health nut” by obese slugs, but to be accused of taking illegal drugs because you are in incredible shape is not funny however you want to look it. Do not take that kind of abuse from anyone - I bloody wouldn’t.

Good luck!

I keep getting people dropping the “S word” on me, Steroids. At first it was just conversations about them. Then it was reference to how my job doesn’t regularly test for them. Then people started making references to specifically how luck I am that we don’t have a test. I’ve had a couple people in the last week say outright that I must be on steroids.

The truth is I’m not on steroids and I don’t look like I’m on steroids. My numbers are okay but not great, and definitly not juice worthty. I think some people are kidding but I think some are serious. Mostly because no one around here lifts heavy. I go to the same gym as some of these people and they dink around on weighted ab machines and leg extensions while I am maxing out on squat. I think I freak some of them out.

I can’t decide if they are all joking or serious, I suspect a mixture of both. I also can’t decide if I should be annoyed or flattered. It wouldn’t be so bad but I work in a pharmacy wherre I have access to steroids. I could be accused and tested and fired or criminally charged if someone took this serious.

What do you all think?[/quote]

just fanning the flame a bit…

I’m in the process of moving to Baltimore. I went and caught a couple orioles games and heard Rapheal Palmero get booed. I really wanted to join in, but not because he took steroids. I wanted to join in cause he looked like a pussy. If your gonna juice, you need to earn it in the gym.

What are other opinions?

Do steroids make you big without working out? I thought it would not.

I would be flattered and sad that people are misinformed. Why not be both at the same time?
