Hey man, sorry to hear the meet didn’t go your way. You still get my respect for getting out there and putting your nuts on the chopping block. You learned a ton and will crush your next one. Heal up and stay strong brother.
plus to the Juan

I’m sure you took note of the whole experience and will crush the next meet. just curious, what did you bring to eat to the meet?
I only brought a few bars, but didn’t eat them. I ate before and after the meet.
do you think not eating during the meet had an impact on your performance? I seem to remember scj saying in his first meet that he should’ve brought more food. then again iirc that meet ran all day.

The meet went pretty fast, so food wasn’t so much of an issue.

Thanks

Strict press
5/3/1 option 1/training max 205
rounded 65% @ 135x5
rounded 75% @ 155x5
rounded 85% @ 175x5 PR
Push press from pins
5/3/1 option 2/training max 210
rounded 75% @ 160x5
rounded 80% @ 170x5
rounded 85% @ 180x10 PR
16" Rack pull
used straps on all sets
320x5
390x5 followed by 5 shrugs
460x5 followed by 3 shrugs
530x5 PR
550x2 PR back/glutes tired
Z press
135x6
175x2 upper back fatigue + quad cramp = stop

NOTES:

  1. An exciting change of pace.
  2. The first few sets of strict and push press were pretty awkward due to:
    • switching from split stance to power stance
    • some jarring of the wrists and hands
    • not doing either movement consistently in a while
Once I found my rhythm I breezed through my top-sets with at least 2 reps left in reserve for both.
  3. It was originally supposed to be free standing push press and not push press from pins, but I like the push press from pins. It’s similar to cleaning every rep and still gives the full ROM.
  4. The plan for the rack pulls is to run 4 week cycles adding 15lbs to all sets each wave until the end of the cycle then dropping 20lbs and repeating the process. Sets of 5 followed by a realization double based on how today went. That would leave me at 600x5 and 620x2 at the end of two cycles … hopefully.

Technique is starting to come together

For sure. Thanks bro.

If you’re planning to continue benching with the closer grip I strongly recommend you hammer hard and heavy on strict presses and push presses the carryover has been incredible for me personally since I started benching close grip all the time.

25x10
45x8
55x5

Injury update:
Both my groin and my knee are feeling 100% now. Now my upper/mid back, traps, and lats are superfluously sore. Success!

Hopefully hitting up dat dere upper body today

I need to get those damn vids up lol. I promise they’ll be posted within the next two days.

Incoming vids
1st attempt: 523 squat

2nd attempt: 540 squat
As you can see, I almost lost the bar forward (not tight enough). I recovered, but forgot to await the rack command.

LOL the vids are rotated 90 degrees. Must be a result of the video formatting.

very impressive speed on those squats :stuck_out_tongue:
