InkAddict's Log

Coming down the canyons in Colorado, doing about 60 around a turn, sand in the road pulled my front tire out and into one of those median concrete dividers which caused me to high-side over the bike, flew…smack…slid…stop. Blacked out, don’t remember anything from coming wide in the turn to hopping on the back of a buddy’s nike to get me to the bottom of the hill. Elapsed time…approx 40 minutes

This is the ‘after’ pic.

or not…how about this one?

Got lucky as hell with my body and the bike, all things considered.

Only injuries (other than the concussion) was some road rash on my left thigh and a burn on my left forearm where my jacket got so hot from friction, the heat caused a burn.

Helmet

Forearm

Thigh/ass rash

Crash was in early July. Other than that, the trip itself was great. Rode like, 1600 miles (I was able to ride the bike back too, btw. Still hit 150 on the way home, torn jeans and all).

Gorgeous state, all of it.

gotta love pavement kisses. Glad you walked away from that one. Looks like you got your bell rung pretty good.

just noticed we may have crossed paths at some point: I was at MCRD SD June-August of '99.

No, no, no MiM. I’m still doing the PL comp for my birthday, that’s not until the end of March. I’m still doing the HALF marathon this January though.

Funny thing about Bed and Barbell, when I heard first heard of it, I looked up where they were located, and I actually used to live on that street! The house is in a cul-de-sac, and I was renting a house probably 12-15 houses from there. Not sure if they were in business then, it was '06-'07. Even now, I’m only about 5 miles from there.

Come out for your birthday, I’ll treat you to a free Prowler session

^ As long as there is steak after wards!

Have you been doing anything to prepare for the marathon? I don’t have any advice on that, buuuut have a looksey at this:

MiM-I haven’t yet, other than a run/walk on Sundays, but this Sunday puts me 16 weeks out, which there seems to be a lot of programs to follow that use a 16 week template. That coolrunning site is great, thanks for the link!

Oh, and hell yeah there’ll be steak afterwards! I can even bring a little baby charcoal grill, toss the steaks on at the start, when we’re done feeling ill, nom nom nom. Anyone else want in?

This one looks promising. It uses running for time during the week, and then for a set distance on Sunday. Should be able to follow this one better than one that has me running 20-30 miles a week, to start, with a 2 on 1 off schedule.

I think I’ll start tonight, 25 minute run, and follow with a brutal shoulder session.

Oh, and I’ll still Prowler every Saturday!

you can DO IT!!

Well, I did it. Is wasn’t pretty, nor was it fun, but I did it!

“Ran” the majority of 25 minutes, had to take a few walk breaks, and only covered 2.4 miles but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

Following the run:

Military workout
Warmup
Barx10/10
65x8
85x8
105x5
125x4
Work Sets
135x5
155x3
175x3* This is a good sign, considering the crappy top end sets lately
Tried 185 for the hell of it, FAIL!

One Arm DB Overhead Press
30x15/15
40x12/10
*Tried to avoid bringing my upper arm below parallel on these

Bent Over DB Raise
25x10/10
30x8/7

BB Shrugs
225x20/20/20*with straps on last set

Pinwheel Curl/Overhead DB Xtnsn SS
30x15/12/10/10

DB Preacher Curl (Slow pace)
25x10/7/7

French Press
65x20
85x12
100x5

After the run I started drinking some Surge WO Fuel, and seemed like this workout was pretty long, compared to my usual workouts. Felt good, everything sufficiently dominated.

Surge Recovery PWO

Now, 1.5 hours later, time for protein!

Also, this evening’s scale adventure (I know, I just do it for fun, I don’t live by it) brought 212.4, fully hydrated and what not. This “should” leave me under 210, if I know my body. This would be the first time I’ve been under 210 without the V-Diet since before I got out of the Marines, in 2004…

175x3

Oh, and one of the stupid cats puked earlier…bitch

Congrats to you!!!

Would you rather wake to cat poo/pee or cat puke every morning?

My older cat was using the kids playroom as his litter box. I was this close to getting rid of him and then I changed the kind of litter I use…wtf. How did we end up with a diva of a cat? After allll this time.

nice presses  and running does take practice. If I stop for a few months and get back it’s really brutal for a few weeks and then I start getting the hang of it.
