Its good to be awesome.
Nice work buddy
30 minutes of intervals on the stairmaster…damn that thing sucks!
Few minutes of rowing but got bored
Woodchops
3x20
Cable crunches
3x20
Nice easy weekend workout, pain tomorrow!
Nice pull ink! Chalk AND bands, the commercial gym flakes must have had their circuits fried! Doing jerry-rigged reverse hypers too, awesome.
Can’t wait to see how the meet goes, I’m loving your approach: Nike that shit brah, Just Do It! Losing fat and getting stronger at the same time is pretty tough, or so I’ve read. I wouldn’t know, since I’ve just basically gotten fatter while getting stronger.
Thanks Major, I get some weird looks in that place but I love it. I may not be the strongest one in there, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to train like I am. Shit, during those reverse hypers I just KNEW people were looking and thinking “that’s not how you do situps, dumbass”
I like my unstructured/newb approach to this meet, because I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything, I’m just working hard and going to see what happens. Hitting that reverse band PR really boosted my confidence again, and I can’t wait to go blast some shit.
LWI tonight, on international bench press day. I’m going to try and get a bench, bring my mini bands for warming up, hit it hard, throw in paused floor presses and incline DB presses.
Stay brutal, my friends
LWI!
nice singlet - your quads are coming quite nicely
reminds me I have yet to put up a singlet picture except for those from afar in action.
Damny Inky, you beasted on that 405! After you smashed it you should have looked at the trainer and said “Suck it, nerd!” hahahaha
You really should record a video where you’re yelling “LOCK OUT, WORK IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!” throughout your lift. that would be hilarious/incredible

Thanks dude, it felt awesome hitting the 405 in the gym where every DL feels 50#s heavier than it should. You can kinda hear me say “UP” as I start lifting, maybe I’ll do one where it’s a “LOCKOUT” once the lift begins…and “WORK IT” at the lockout…hmmm…haha
N, thank you, if my quads weren’t pastey white they’d look better I’m sure haha. Yeah, you need more singlet pics I noticed ![]()
Nothin like a weak ass workout to kick ones morale into the shitter. Started out decent, but wasn’t feeling strong (again) so it was hard to progress with confidence.
Bench with mini bands
Bar x 10 x 2 (low arch)
95 x 3 x 3 (3reps normal grip, 3 wide and close)
135 x 3n/2w/1c
135 x 3n/3w (high arch)
185 x 3 super easy
205 x 3 (added wraps, too tight though I think)
225 x 2 (hit bench on way up of rep 2)
225 x 1 x few, working to get the feel of it, but each rep felt like shit)
235 x 1 heavy
Think I’ll open with 210-215…thoughts?
Incline Barbell Bench
135 x 10
165 x 5/3
Just about walked out here, felt lame, but saw an open cage (finally)
Floor Press
135 x 11
185 x 5
205 x 3
*all done with a good pause
That’s it, felt like the last heavy session should have gone a lot better. Oh well, hoping the meet atmosphere will help me at least hit 250, but that is asking a lot at this point, which sucks because I’ve benched plenty more than that at home, even a 265 with a slight pause. Fuck it, just get me on that damn platform already so I can have an official starting place in my powerlifting career.
Meh. Just an off day brutha. I’m sure everything will feel tons different at the meet - and by different I mean victorious!!
Hang in there Inky, you’ll be sporting that singlet in no time!
dont worry about it Inky… I know how you feel. You just gotta get after it next time. Dont let it get in your head and psych you out.
Here’s a good piece of advice that I was once told to keep in mind for next time:
“You gotta go get it and come back wid it”
By the way, heres the link to the Westside Barbell log
Maschy, I WILL be VICTORIOUS! Thanks for the confidence ![]()
Dixie, I love that video, I’ll have to save the link to it on my phone to watch before/during my meet. Very inspirational and gets me jacked up just sitting at my desk! Thanks for the WBB link, checking it out now
Greg, thanks man. I try to keep shit out of my head, it just creeps in sometimes. I’ll go get it, and come back wid it.
Last night I had a hard time falling asleep (very unlike me) because I couldn’t put training out of my mind. I’ve concluded that since I’ve dropped my OHP day, my bench hasn’t done shit. After the meet, there’ll definitely by an OHP day back in the mix.
So for the next year after this meet and up to the next one (it’s a yearly meet, the AZ State Championship meet) I’m wanting to not only increase my lifts, but gain size as well. I’m thinking of training of either a BB style split for 4-5 months, and then going to PL training for 7-8 months, OR do I come up with a “power-building” type program that uses the main PL lifts in low rep ranges and then finishes those body parts with higher rep work?
Also want to get the 5/3/1 for Powerlifting book and could work with that for a while, or even the oiginal 5/3/1 for maybe 4 cycles? Sheiko program for squats? Too much info out there, and I need help in every lift so it’s like “Fuck, where do I start?”

After reading the article on Westside Barbell’s site “How To Bench Press 500 Easy” I think I might have an approach to bring my bench up. An acutal “structured” ME and DE day are definitely required. I think with benching, i need to quit going in and making it up as I go, it’s obviously not working.
One thing I picked up on is that they don’t pause benches in training often, but do pause floor and board presses. Also, fast lowering of the bar helps keep kinetic strength, even with the pause at the bottom. According to Louie. I have noticed the slow downward bar speed = slow upward bar speed in my case. Jeez, I need to quit reading shit and just isolate myself until meet day.
Must. Resist. Urge. To. Change. Things…

I think this sounds like a good idea to me. Dont worry about it till after your meet but once you’re done I think it’d be a good idea to get on a more structured program and figure out what approaches work best for you (if you havent done this already) Thats what I did. I did my own thing, then tried a few different programs and pulled from all the things that I’ve tried before and use that in my program today.
When is your meet again brah?

Yeah, structure is required, I’m not advanced enough (shocking!) to wing it and keep getting results. I think I’m a little past a beginner, when I could do whatever and see gains. Time to dial it in and be an “intermediate” for a few years, fo sho!
Meet is 12 days, March 27th.

oh shit, only 12 days. What weight class are you trying to hit? Are you gonna have to cut any weight or are you already there?
Training ADD is a bitch. I suffer from the same affliction.
Yeah 12 days! 11 and a wake up, I’m so anxious it’s insane.
As for weight, I’m 200.8 as of this morning, which is where I’ve floated the past couple of weeks. Should be 198 with ease, for saturday evening weigh in. Probably will wake up, hop on the scale, eat a tiny breakfast of oats and whey and a sip of water to wash it down, then nothing for the rest of the day while we drive up to Prescott (2 hours max).
I’ll bring my scale with me, weigh myself when we get there, but will probably try and sweat a bit to make sure I’m comfortably under 198. I know my scale at home is .4#s heavier than the gym scale, so I’m hoping if my scale has me under, I’m still under! Not worried or anything, just keeping it in the back of my mind.
I read an article Matt Kroc has on EFS where he drops like 20+ pounds in a day, and then packs it all back on in time for his meet. It’s crazy. I read it, thought “hmmm, if I was a 181 my lifts would be more impressive” but that’s rediculous for a newb like me. Just going to smash weights, LWI, and have fun.
Racer, training ADD is rediculously annoying at times, and is easy to “get” if your gym is stupid busy like mine is. I tried to take a pic pulling into the parking lot last night, but failed. It was rediculous. Seriously, I don’t even know where all those people go in that place, they’re not all in the weight area (thank god) but it’s still a nightmare sometimes!
