Ok, screw the cardio, I did squats instead. It’s better this way, and more fun, anyway.

8/3/10 Squats

Warm-up followed by some calf work, which I have done twice this year maybe. I’m such a slacker when it comes to calves, which is why they look like the calves of an parapalegic (fucked up, I know haha) Anyway, did 3 sets standing with BB on back (115x20, 115x20, 165x20) and then seated on a bench, with 90lbs on my quad, directly over knee, done one leg at a time for 20/25/30. I’ll be feeling those tomorrow…

Next up, Squats:
165x3
190x3
215x7

215 was my absolute MAX when starting 5/3/1 at the end of May, so not too bad for 2 1/2 months time, eh?

Assistance:
Front squats 135x8/8/8/8
Leg Curls 45x20, 70x15/12/10

Ended with some foam rolling of the legs. Overall very happy with the workout tonight, and will be sore as hell in the next couple of days. Might attempt to Prowl tomorrow night.

It’s not very much, but it gets the job done in the short amount of time I have to lift at home. When the gains stop coming, I’ll increase the volume, but thanks for the concern.

Sam’s good, didn’t piss inside today, so that’s a big step! No shitting in the bed, no eating my shoes. He can’t eat my shoes, how will I know my BF???

Only got the prescribed reps for the 245, couldn’t hit any more. Right before my last set, I’m talking, on the bench, arched, hands set ready to un-rack, and the wife comes in to tell me I need to get out back and check on the dog. “Ok” I said, and went. He was fine, killed my set though. I called it a night after that, and figured I’ll just hit it harder next week.

The last time I did sumo’s for assistance I pulled 205x5/5, so I think that getting 5 sets of 10 with a bit lighter weight is better anyway, and it felt great.

Rack Pulls (Just below knee)
225x5, 315x0 (Too friggin tired), 225x3, Done.

Not a shitload of volume, but it was enough to kick my ass. One thing about 5/3/1 is that it’s quick and to the point, down and dirty. There’s not 2+ hours of isolation work going on, it’s the work sets with a little assistance and that’s it.

Overall, the workout felt great, back is sore in all the right places today, and I might get a little cardio in tonight. Video of the 315x5 to follow

8/7/10 Military Press

Started with a walk to the store to get the goods for breakfast. Total time was 40min.

Warmed up and then:

Had to end it to make breakfast. Steak and eggs!

Went on a walk this morning to get breakfast. After the “shortcut” lead to a dead end, decided to walk home and drive there. 5.6 miles later, I feel the drive was earned.

Calves are sore today. The past couple days of walking/running I’ve been trying to change my running form, to land on the balls of my feet, rather than my heels. This has resulted in extremely sore calves! I see this as a good thing, and if nothing else good comes out of training for this half marathon and marathon, my calves will finally be “north of vag” to quote Wendler :slight_smile:

Attempted to ab wheel, but failed on 1, still sore from last week (I really shouldn’t have ignored abs for so long) so I’ll do them later in the week, on DL day perhaps.

8/9/10 Skwats!

I feel like lifting later at night (after 8) really robs me of energy and motivation. I would like to lift in the AM but I can’t get my ass up before 4am to lift heavy. The optimal time I’ve found is right after work, but lately there’s so much “family/home/life” responsibilities that I can’t lift at that time. I guess I’ll just keep pushing it when I can.

you are doing what you can! just keep going. what about coming home to work out at your lunch break?? I dunno what you do for work. Or hitting up a nearby gym perhaps?

If I had a home gym, I’d be squatting in my undies no doubt. But for sure, you can’t post that nastiness in a serious log :wink:

Looking good inkmeister. Good glute squeeze at the top…NOT that I was looking, sheesh, what do you take me for?!!

MiM-I get a half hour for lunch, and live 20 minutes away, so that doesn’t work. I have done pullups and dips at work on break though at times, I put up a pullup bar in one of the shops, and we have a forklift I dip off of :slight_smile:

FM-I’ll admit, I’ve squatted, and deadlifted “shortless” once or twice, and you’re right, no vid’s to post here 'bout that!

One other thing to note, is my home gym gets so unbelievably hot in the summer time, the circulation at that part of the house, since I put up a wall to block it off for gym-use, is non-existent. Sure a fan helps, but the sweat is good!
