benching in jeans is tres chic
and those floor presses are fantastic.
Thanks N.
Here’s some pullups done on break again. I’m saying 15, the Marine Corps would have said 14 probably, but at least I went all the way down (insert ghey joke). I’ll get 20…that’s my goal. 5 years in the Marine Corps and I always sucked and didn’t really care too much about PT and pullups (airwinger). Most I ever got was 8 on a deployment that I had dropped 30lbs on. 20 by the end of the year is doable, ain’t it??
Also, my chin can’t come right to the bar, as the overhang that it’s mounted under sticks out a few inches and I’d split my face open if I tried to get closer. My brother got 17, although I’ll call him out saying he didn’t go all the way down on the first 10 or so…sucka!
NO KIPPING! lol
you’re further ahead in the pullup department than I am at the moment. I used to be able to do 20 (at the same weight as I am now, no less), and I’m trying to get back there now. After being a nasty civilian with a convenient injury excuse, I’m way down.
I’m making some progress the last few weeks on a quasi-HFT program. 3 max effort sets a day/ 5days a week. Pretty much the same program I used back in the day to go from 5 to 20 in about a year. I’ll throw in some chins and towel pullups in here and there too. Give it a shot, I think it’ll take you past 20 by the end of the year easy.
That’s not kipping Devildog! Knees only come a few inches in front, and if there was a fellow devil dog holding his arm out “bootcamp style” there’d have been no problems. Kipping is Crossfit pullups…those are not ![]()
Also, let it be known that I couldn’t do any overhanded pullups, I only did chins before, so my 8 in the USMC was chins. Weak fail of a devildog, but I’ll be damned if my Avionics shop wasn’t the best in the biz at keeping the 46’s airborne!
Edit: Don’t want to come off as a jerk up there ^^ I’ve always been shitty at pullups and had to argue about them counting on occasion, so I’ll take what I can get. I remember hearing about when the Corps took away kipping, and lots of the Gunny’s that could get 20 easy, were pissed because they couldn’t break 10 now.

no worries, I knew those weren’t real kips, just bustin your chops a bit. (thought the lol would convey that)
Those were textbook pullups compared to the half-ass stuff I see at my gym.
I was an 0341/8152, so it was all pullups all the time. I kinda miss having a pullup bar everywhere I look.

OOH RAH, Motivator. I was rocking the airwing, 6322 CH-46E Avi, and a member of the 6mi/year club. God I had horrible PFT scores…
You said you went to MCRD SD back in 99 right? What platoon/company?

I’m not in the military, but I did do some mercenary work. This was me ^
yeah…anywho, for a super bad ass story of a viking being awesome, check this out

Yup. 2nd battalion, Echo Co, plt 2078. (memory is a little hazy on the Co, but I wrote the little ditty we said for out plt video they did, so I remember that clear as a bell)
Best PFT I ever ran was 275. The run always kicked my ass. Best run time was 21:20. That was the best shape of my entire life, and 1-year goal is to get back to that level, if I can.
Mighty Mike Company, 3rd Batallion, Plt 3094 here!
My best was a 220. Missed first class by 5 points. ONE PULLUP! I think my best run time ever was 22:45 or some shit, hated it!
I want to be able to have a first class PFT right now, and I guess if I’d get the 100 crunches (probably not since I haven’t done ab work more than twice this year) and 15 pullups that’s a 175 without even running. Damn, now I’m curious as to where I’m at. Maybe I’ll run 3 miles tonight and see…

^^ Comes off the floor good, gets sticky towards the top, last couple inches were good too. Rack pulls to assist in lockout?
My 1 arm bb rows, for demonstration. I found it easiest to place opposite hand across top of working side’s knee.
Nice work on the new PR! Looks like you didn’t have that much trouble pulling it… 405 isn’t far away!
That dead PR looked easy - fuckin A Ink! ![]()
and neat trick for the rows.

Dear Joyce,
Please put some weight on the bar next time you pull.
kthx.
Sincerely,
Court
Thanks guys, re-watching it this morning I feel like I could have loaded more on the bar (if that would please you, Court) and ripped it again. Next week is a 5/3/1 week, and the top set is suppsed to be 350x1+, but I’ll stop at 1, and then go for a new PR. I can practially taste 405, and that’s going to be pretty freakin sweet.
lucky bastard ![]()
bump:
I’m currently eating caramel covered popcorn covered with chocolate.
coma-inducing shit man.
The family man is visiting the happiest place on earth… that plus apparently having a bunch of school shit this week has led him to ignore us. What a jerk!
That sounds so good N!
Please excuse my absence, I’m in Disneyland right now, you’re right Court. It’s been crazy joe been running on empty but it’s still fun. I did manage to get a session in last night though. Mind you, done on four hours sleep + six hour drive + running around here all day + decagon plates still somehow = a PR
I met this hot powerlifter chick there who was kind enough to help me out and fix my shitty form, which was awesome and made up for the fact i was in a commercial gym at 10pm.
Did some light squats to warm up, then moved to deadlifts.
135 x some
225 x a few
275 x 3
315 x 3
345 x 1
385 x 1 PR (even though it was ugly as shit I kept pulling and got it)
Then went to 225 for a bunch of singles for form work.
405 will be mine soon!
Squats for form, nothing over 135.
Really a great workout and an feeling it today!
cough major hitching cough
cough beyond uglier than shit cough
Great pulling though. Just get your form right and the numbers will follow!
