As if you actually wrote this… you are SO off my Christmas card list!

I can’t imagine…ok, aside from squatting 200+ I want a 100+ press

I can do 85 for 1 but thats the most I’ve attempted.

Thanks MiM, you’ll get that 100 lb press and 200 lb squat within a month of each other, I’d say.

Thanks for your confidence!

Hey Inky, how goes the weekend?
inkaddict wrote:

Shoulder “triad” I picked up from a thread here. Basically a giant set comprised of side laterals, front raises, and overhead DB presses without dropping the weights

15# x 15reps each exercise for 2 sets. Holy hell this hurt bad. Bad!
inky INK!!! I changed the shoulder triad around to try and balance out my shoulders, the exercises start with rear laterals, then side, then overhead. I figure the front dealt get hit hard enough with other overhead and chest work.

N-Climbing was great, didn’t do a whole lot, but completed the most difficult route I’ve ever attempted (not saying much, but it felt great). It’d been a while since I had gone, and I’m 15lbs lighter and a hell of a lot stronger this time, so it made it more fun. Forearms are so freaking sore today…good thing I didn’t plan on DL’s today.

MiM-Weekend’s fine, watched the O online Fri/Sat and doing homework/hanging all day today. Hope yours is great.

Bass-Yo, what’s up man?! You know, that variation sounds good, I know my rear delts need way more atention then my front, so I’ll try that next time, thanks!

After climbing yesterday I wanted to do a little squatting, nothing crazy just wanted to see where I stood. Worked up to 255x1, which is a 5lb PR, 265 failed, but I wasn’t completely warmed up and I think next time I’ll get more than that.

Today, just did a little benching, warmup+185x5/210x5/240x4.

I’ll take tomorrow off, and try some sumo DL’s on Tuesday, at the gym at my highschool. I took a semester of weight training in 10th grade, and now I work with a guy who’s wife teashes there, and he gets to train there. So I’ll actually have a spotter if need be, should be interesting.

random curious question, how wide do you take your grip on bench, and how wide do you squat?

Bench, I’ve been playing with trying to get what feels right. I was taking a grip that was about 2" onto the knurling (borderline narrow I guess), but recently tried moving it out to have my pinky on the ring (wider, less ROM). I feel stronger with the closer grip, but not sure how much chest development I’ll get from it.

Squat, wider than shoulder width, little under 3’ between the insides of my feet. Definitely a hamstring/glute blaster, over quads. I think my quad work will be started with elevated heel front squats, since last time I did them my quads were on fire for every rep.

Ok, so today was an interesting day with regards to lifting. Got to go to my high school gym, which was very weird being there again. I remember being so weak then, it was sad. One semester my sophomore year of “weight training” which basically included 1/4 squats, wrist curls, and power cleans with bumpers.

Worked along with the guys from work who are doing Starting Strength, which meant squat/bench/deadlift today. Rather than just doing a % for 5 reps or whatever, I pushed to a max, which didn’t go so well. Still fun and I’ll joing them again, maybe once a month or something.

Squats
Bar x 8
95 x 6
135 x 5
185 x 3
225 x 1
245 x Fail

Bench
45 x 10
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 3
205 x 3
225 x 2
245 x 1
265 x Fail

Deadlift (Conventional)
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 2
315 x 1
Sumo 315 x Fail, reset, got it

Then did couple Pendlay Rows
135 x 10
155 x 8

Dips x Some
Pullups x Some (Did get 12 at work earlier, which was an accomplishment!)

Everyone was leaving, so shut it down at this point and headed home.

Once at home, didn’t feel adequately worked, although my CNS was fried and I felt dead. So why not push a little more?
Front squats
135 x 10
155 x 8
155 x 8
175 x 4 (PR, never tried this weight before)

Leg Extension Giant Set
90 x 10(Toes In) / 10(Toes Out) / 10(Toes Forward)
90 x 10(TI) / 10(TF) / 10(TO)
90 x 10(TF) / 10(TO) / 10(TI)
*Quads were on fire, seriously, burning so bad!

Leg Curls
90 x 15
*Having my quads mashed into the pad for these hurt, so I pussed out.

I’ll get back to my “5/3/1 + Bodybuilding assistance” work next time, but today was still “fun”

315 DL’s

^fire the hips forward first. it should be the first movment.

otherwise, nice work

Thanks dude. Today I was just pushing it in all lifts, next time I’ll stick to my “one big lift” and really focus on that. Thanks

it’s good to switch things up once in a while, keeps things fresh and exciting.
nice deads - really love how after a fail you can reset yourself for another run. and a front squat PR after testing your maxes? damn good work.

It’s all in the mind. I knew I should have been able to rip that shit off the floor. I knew I lost my form and went to hell, so I just stopped, cleared my head, took a breath, and went for it. Next time you fail at a weight, take a second to recompose yourself, and try again. What’s the worst that could happen? You fail? Shit, already did that…so why not?

9-29-10
Military “5” week

*Figured I should get back in it, quit dicking around so much and lift what I’m supposed to, and then a little more.

warmups
125x5
140x5
160x5
140x5
125x5
*Felt like going back down, little more volume.

Shoulder Triad, starting with bent over laterals per Bass’ recommendation, the side laterals, and OHP’s
15#'s x 15
12#'s x 12
10#'s x 10

Yes, light DB’s but shit, my shoulders were on fire!

Going out of town for a few days, wife’s grandpa passed away yesterday and the service is on Saturday. Hope to get at least 1 semi-decent hotel workout in, so we’ll see about that. Might even do some running, since I really need to get on that!

Legs and back are wicked sore from yesterday’s workout, so that’s a big fat AWESOME in my books. I love being sore, even though I look crippled half the time, I still love it.

Sadist? Moi?! Never…
