Because he isn’t a good actor – he’s a stunt man with a typical Hollywood personality. He plays the same character in every movie he has ever been in. It’s a trait shared by all bad Hollywood actors.
The over the top script is just icing on the cake.

Go watch:
Star Wars (the 3 with him in them)
Regarding Henry
What Lies Beneath
Air Force One
…And tell me with a straight face those are all the same character.

Ok, they are all the same except for Regarding Henry. Don’t mistake me. Bad acting doesn’t mean it can’t be entertaining.
He’s still a really, really bad actor and he will never be as good as he was in American Graffiti. By far, his worst movie ever was Blade Runner…yuck!!
Witness wasn’t so bad but then there was a really hot Mennonite chick to distract me from all the bad acting going on.

Surely you cannot be serious.

You beyond all hope if you honestly believe that, so I’ll just leave you with this:

Thank you for reminding me why he is such a bad actor.

Are you kidding? His delivery was amazing. I’d vote him in as president just for that line.
You really are confusing acting with screenwriting.

…or typecasting.

Samuel L. Jackson would have said it waaaaaaaaaay better.
“Get off my mutha-fuckin’ plane, mutha-fucka!”

See the four movies listed earlier. Harrison Ford is typecasted about as much as any other major actor.

Typecasting is my biggest problem with the Hollywood film industry. It makes it too easy to keep employing really bad actors.

Like Sam Jackson.
Okay fine, maybe there’s a LITTLE typecasting going on here:

It’s just a shame that everytime I see an interview of Harrison Ford he comes across as such a grumpy guy.

Well he’s got an answer for you:
LIFTICVSMAXIMVS wrote:
Ford’s bad acting is classic…it’ll never match the bad acting he did in Star Wars but still it will be funny to watch his old ass swing from a bull-whip and defeat an entire army of Nazis, etc.
Bro, you’re crazy. Harrison Ford’s acting in Stat Wars was far from bad.

Harrison Ford is the white Denzel Washington. They both play the same character in all their films, and people enjoy watching them. I know I wouldn’t mind earning a few million for playing the same character over and over.

Agreed. It also doesn’t make them bad actors.
I consider Johnny Depp to be one of the better actors we have probably seen in this generation. I doubt anyone else could pull off complete character changes like Edward Scissorhands or Sweeny Todd. He OWNS that level of disguise. I consider Christian Bale to be close to that as well.
That doesn’t mean I won’t pay to see Russell Crowe or Denzel play the same tortured character in a different setting. No one could pull it off quite like them.
There is a reason we go and see movies with Christopher Walken in them. That reason is because we like who they are and want to see them act out whatever part they were given.
The same goes for Samuel L. That isn’t bad acting. You may call it a lack of significant range, but who the hell else could fit the parts they are known best for?
