Incorporating more salt

Hello everyone, I’m a highschooler and I’ve gotten pretty big by just eating a lot of meat, dairy, fruits, and normal supplementation. I’ve been doing some research because I have been plateauing more and more often and I was wondering if it is possible that a lack of salt could be part of the issue because for the longest time I believed that salt should be avoided. Do any of you guys have any tips to include more salt into my normal routine?

Lack of salt is not hindering your gains, and you’re probably not plateauing - just exhausting your beginner gains.

Salt your food.
Salt your water if you really want (not kidding).

Cool it with the dairy and cheeses unless you’re hoping to get fat.

Lean meats and unprocessed carbs are pretty cool.
So is progressively lifting more weight.

@Andrewgen_Receptors, do you include nonfat Greek yogurt in your no dairy recommendation? Curious.

Stan Efferding is a huge Body Builder and Power lifter who “invented” the Vertical Diet. He says if you eat clean and train a lot it’s easy to be low on salt.

He bases amount of salt on water intake. 4 grams (just under a teaspoon) per half gallon of water.

A real easy method with less calculations could be to Eat 1/4 teaspoon of salt, washed down with water, right before and right after your workouts.

Salt everything before you cook it. Doing it on your plates afterwards is just crunchy rocks that makes you eat less.

Boom, you’re 99% a chef.

I cannot see how anyone eating to get strong can be low in salt (and suppose it is sodium that is the concern.)

I never salted anything. Animal meat is sufficiently high in sodium by itself.

ELECTROLYTE DRINK
Powder Mix:
1/2 cup Celtic Salt
1/2 tsp Magnesium Glycinate Powder
1 1/3 tsp Potassium Chloride (Nu-Salt)

You’ll have to post macros, i don’t eat it.

If it’s actually nonfat and reasonably low carbs, sure.

No problem man.

I felt the same way about the Vertical Diet. It was mostly stuff I did anyway. Plus some salt, cranberry juice and broth. And then I just had more energy.

It’s funny, when you hear people sum it up, it just seems like “duh”. “See, Stan’s a genius: he came up with this diet where you DON’T eat the stuff that upsets your guts, and you just eat the stuff that you digest well.”

And then you go “Well what idiot is out there eating stuff that upsets their guts?”

And then you discover: we’re all idiots.

Track and calculate your potassium intake before you go bonkers with salt.

If you can hit the r.d.a. on average, week to week, then think about it.

Edit: in fact, track your sodium too.

A decent potassium/sodium ratio is about 2/1 if you hit 2000 mg. sodium and get 4000 mg. potassium.

Strangely enough for a while a large pizza from dominoes did not impact my guts when I was eating one a week. Then one day, it was a nightmare

After not eating oatmeal for awhile, adding it back didn’t feel great. I haven’t missed it much since I dropped it out all together.

I personally keep pizza in the diet weekly, just so I don’t lose my tolerance. I’d hate that!

That is quite a nice way to have control over your cravings. I have kept a cheat day after every 14 days so that I could eat my favourite food on the same day and later continue with my diets.

Ah, youth. I can’t even have the spicy sandwich from Chick-fil-A without paying a heavy price anymore. Truly tragic.

The suffering is real. I had to go get Popeyes spicy sandwiches, nuggets, and fries for the family today. Meanwhile I’m eating canned tuna and saurekraut.
