Can I have some dinner?
Hahaha - no.
I do not share food. We’ll it’s a touch more complicated than that. Im generous when people come for dinner. But once it’s on my plate. And if there is a sharing bowl - I MUST have the lions share.
We had 15 people over on Boxing Day. I cooked up about 3-4lb of potatoes. I ate about 10% of those.
I ate the most turkey and lamb as well. It’s a total power move I do 100% with out knowing.
Yesterday’s play with the 80+100kg sand bags has convinced me I need to do more of these. I dont like I struggled to do them. I wanted more. And have woken up - “feeling them”.
There was also a moment of bad ass in the gym. A group of boys (4 of them, 19-21yo) who had spent the last 45mins doing bench and curls. I did first warm up on bag over yoke and they came over to see. After a few moments they ask what I was doing and if they could join in.
I wont lie; it was fun showing these kids the joys of lifting sand bags. Even better as I could lift the 100 over 5 times in a row as they struggled for singles. I then realized I was the big hairy old dude at the gym. With the beard and vest top. Doing some odd exercise that the kids though was really cool.
But I’ll be fair - they were good kids. And one of them is thinking about adding sand bag / stone lifts on leg day. So job done? I mean do I look that impressive kids want to train like me - that’s good right?
That is definitely good and I am sure they were blown away by you manhandling that bag. As you know it take time and usually quite a lot of it to build that kind of strength and it is definitely impressive to younger or newer trainees. Well done you for being that bloke.
You now what - my 1st time in this gym the owner (at the time a professional strong man) took time out to teach me how to lift stones. He came 6th in UK strongest man that year. And I’ll never forget how much more inviting it made the gym. To have someone to show me how the no standard parts work. I like the idea that maybe one day they’ll look back and say “That dude in the gym was cool, and gave me solid advice”. In the same way I look back at my first time in there.
I read that some trainers but there male clients on 1200 calories a DAY.
This is breakfast.
6 eggs - 900 calories
3 rashers of bacon - 120 calories
50g of cheese - 200 calories
2 slices of toast - 120 calories
1340 calories - not including butter, sauce or cooking oil.
It’ll look even better once you’ve cooked that bacon.
Big Carl Breakfast
It looks good dude
Close…

Man I totally miss timed the whole operation. Toast was cooked, eggs burnt and bacon still cold.
And then I got hungry. So I played up.
Thank you. It was. Now to put it to work. All that spare energy has to go somewhere. I think another trip to the gym to mess.abput with sand bags. Or maybe another run at one of Pwn’s bad ideas. Who knows.
In the gym right now. Just messing about lifting heavy no real plan.
45kg monster DB 3 reps each arm in quick succession.
80kg keg for 2 singles
Then:
80kg sand bag over yoke x4
60kg Viking press X10
Was due for rounds in 20 mins but man I flagged quickly. Got 3 rounds in 12 then flaked. 100% spent. Right now I couldn’t fight a sneeze. Put the equipment away, going to find food and drive to work.
Edit - I was a touch disappointed with this work out at the start. Until I noticed how many times I’d cleaned a weight to chest level.
If 2x 45kg monster DB clean (one on each arm) = an 80kg clean then allowing for missed teps over head and warm ups I’m at:
Monster DB - 7
Keg - 4
Sand bag - 16 (4 singles to warm up)
That’s 27 explosive cleans at about 80kg in one session. That’s a lot. Happier now.
Reading a 531 prices - and this little nugget is in there:
“I think most guys – even guys with all kinds of time to train – would be better off stripping down their volume and stepping up their conditioning,” says Wendler.
“Something almost magical happens to the body when you get in great condition. You look better, feel better, and you perform better”
It’s upsetting I never played this much attention until now.
It’s 00:10 in the UK right now and I just got home early from work. And now I’m bored. There’s at least 3h before I’m ready for sleep. I’m trying to decide if a walk is a good idea or not. And then weighted or not.
The bergen is ready to go. I can walk for 30 mins in a direction and then turn back. A simple one.
The only consideration is I have a slight amount of pain in my right leg and I’m in London tomorrow doing tourist stuff. So on my feet lots. I don’t want to make a slight pain into an injury. But who ever got injured walking?
EDIT - went walking. Strava says 8k (5miles) in 1:30. So a fair pace with a 20kg/44lb pack. Feels good. Had a selection of 90s rock. Really powered it out.
OMG I am so dumb sometimes, I just realised that his avatar is his name. I’ll get my coat…
So an odd few days. The family and I spent a night in London. Did 0 in the way of work outs but did lots of walking.
Saturday I on the amp we walked 4 miles. So assuming for bits not accounted for (like walking through tube stations, shops and playing etc) I’d say its closer to 4.5. To day the map says 3 miles covered. So again 3.5 miles. That’s 8 miles over 2 days. the only bit that hurts is my calfs and the soles of my feet.
I was pretty controlled with food and drink. 2 pints with dinner yesterday, sausages today with breakfast and an ice cream. All that said I weighted myself on Saturday AM - 105.00. Today 107.1. I’m not sure whats going on. But I think the fact that I got to 105 on the dot means this plan is working. Just not as fast as I want. But that is okay. My belly fat is down. I’m 100% sure of that. My waist measurement (around the navel) is 107cm. That’s pretty good for me. I’ve not been that for a while
Over all - I guess I’m saying I’m not overly happy with the weight loss being so slow. But I am losing fat. And the weight lose is slow as I’m gaining muscle. I’m hitting some good numbers. Setting PR’s each month to be fair. Hit a front squat PR, leg day PR, Kroc row PR, Press PR. So yeah. I’ll carry on for now. But the gial of being sub 100KG for my music festival is blown. I will aim for 102kg. This is 2-3kg down from my minimum morning weight. I can do that I would think.
So 104.8kg on waking up. Not fucking sure what my body is doing. But to hell with it. I’m under 105kg for the first time since I started this log I think. Puts the 102kg goal WELL within reach. I just have to monitor.
Today I will be doing legs. Because it is leg day.
You’ll reach your goal for sure Big Carl
Thank dude! It might take a while longer than I like put I will - you’re right.
I’ve written a few times about being a touch bipolar and having mild ASD. Today is a day it’s REALLY telling.
The plan was leg day but my wife took my car keys to work. And that is where my belt is. Pain in the arse - no belt, no leg day.
The issue is - my plan was leg day. And I’m having a hard time adjusting from said plan. I can feel the day slipping away. And this is having a BAD effect on my head space. On what should be a good day (104kg baby) - I’m struggling. I will head off up stairs now to do a sand bag work out. 100 reps burpee, press up, row and dead lift
But every time I look back on my training history and feel underwhelmed with where I am I must remember. In the past, days like today spiralled into weeks and months of inaction. At least I do not do that any more.
Edit - done 100 reps. In good time 18-20 mins. That’s 2 mins a round or 30 seconds an exercise. Or 3 seconds a rep. Moving quickly today. Sweating like a burst water balloon.
