Imperial College of London

Anybody know a student that goes there or someone who works there?

I know this is a long shot, but I’m trying to help a friend out (here in the States) with paperwork. He’s stuck in the visa process because he’s waiting to hear from Imperial about loan disbursements.

Just curious.

That’s a fine mess. Uni admin is often ineffective, what’s the deadline for out-of-state applicants? When does the quarter/semester start?

Have your friend drink milk and squat infront of them.
Also, he might want to try hitting himself.

I hope this helps, good luck.

The UK Border Agency can’t be influenced from the higher education provider side - and they tend to look very badly on any attempts to interfere with the process. Imperial is one of the top unis - worldwide - and they take on thousands of international students. This won’t be a problem of Imperial’s recognition at any stage, as they will have highly trusted status.

What could be at the root of the problem is that tens of thousands of UK applicants can’t get into uni this year, due to budget cuts, and that there are caps on the number of international students (who pay significantly more thus bringing in high revenues - but have been a target for the press and therefore a certain amount of political posturing) a higher education provider - with penalties for the uni, if they take too many.

I fear your friend will just have to ride this one out. HE administration is always painfully slow, but if he makes it in without a cap being applied, then Imperial will have a strong incentive to take him on.

I hope that makes sense.

Makkun

Imperial is a damn good uni. I have a couple of friends who go there and their standards are high. London unis are known though, Makkun, for taking foreign students in large numbers (to the extent that one friend applied as a foreign student to UCL because a careers adviser told him there was more of a chance that he can get in). If there’s a problem with loan disbursments the administrators are on the website perhaps contact them?

Archie,

I’m not sure when semester starts but I’m thinking sometime in September? He’s supposed to start in the fall session.

He has tried to call the college but has never been able to get a hold of someone. He has emailed with some success in receiving a response, but all they keep saying is that there are no issues on their end and they’re just waiting for loans to be disbursed for his tuition.

Of course, unless he can prove the loans were disbursed, he can’t yet get visa (or so he says).
