I’m trucking along as well. Slowed down a little bit, but there’s still a few days left and I’m sure donations can still be accepted afterwards. I might get a bump once everyone sees me sporting the Telly Savalas.
I did break $500 though, so I’m keeping to my word and maintaining the buzz at least another two weeks, instead of letting it grow back right away. (My own little idea/incentive.)
So, I got back from the buzzing a little while ago.
A big thank you to everyone who chose to donate. In all, the 140 volunteer headshavees at this one event raised a total of over $71,000 for children’s cancer research. And there are events like this going on all across the country.
In case anyone wanted to wait and see if I’d really do it before donating, enjoy the video (and donations are still accepted and appreciated).
This numbers just came in and in 2011, the St. Baldrick’s charity raised over $28 million and was able to “fund more childhood cancer research grants than in any year in the Foundation’s history, and more than any organization except the U.S. government.”
It was a big year for St. Baldrick’s and I’m very proud to say that my hair, Roman’s hair, and those of you who chose to donate, were all a part of it. Thanks again.
Nicely done, gentlemen. My father and my little sister did St Baldrick’s a few years ago. I’m considering donating my hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths wig program - they only require an 8" donation and all the wigs are given for free, as opposed to LOL which charges on a sliding scale.
I think I’m right at 8" to spare. If I don’t have enough for Pantene, my friend suggested I donate to Merkins for Hope.
It’s also great that you’re thinking about donating. When my gal’s youngest was going to cut his hair after growing it out for about a year, we looked into Locks of Love but he just missed their minimum length. I wish we’d known about the Pantene program, but I didn’t see it mentioned when we were searching around.
