I guess it’s too late now, but was I the only one hoping that truck was about to run over the guy blocking the damn road?
Hopefully, you are the only one. Im not a fan of people severely harming others they disagree with. Especially if it’s a frontline healthcare worker during a pandemic.
Do you honestly wish serious injury or death upon a healthcare worker counter protesting? Yikes.
Doxxing should be a crime. Is it not already?
Blocking the flow of traffic isn’t a counter protest.
I don’t know if it’s a crime or not. I agree that it should be, though.
You don’t think the truck blocking the intersection behind the nurse/Dr was in the way?.. Not to mention, guy sure seems to be in a crosswalk. Lastly, the fat blonde leaning out the window isn’t wearing a seatbelt.
In any case, you condone and wish bodily harm on folks peacefully protesting. What a great guy you are.
It’s the Christian thing to do. If you don’t run people over and you support a speed limit Satan wins.
I have no idea. It’s a still picture.
It does. They tend to be at intersections. You can’t block traffic by standing in a crosswalk.
And…?
Blocking traffic is not a peaceful protest. It’s entirely possible that the guy was standing there while traffic was stopped for a light and moving away before traffic could legally flow. I don’t care what he was doing if that’s the case-I just shared my initial reaction to a guy appearing to block traffic. If he was blocking travel, I would not be bothered by him being run over(if he refused to move).
Holy cow. Even the CCP won’t run over a pedestrian blocking traffic. But NickViar sure will!
Awfully prescient in a thread about the erosion of rights in America.
In my city, BLM blocked some highways a few years back. I don’t think this is acceptable as “peacefully protesting”. It is not peaceful, it is meant to aggravate. I am not sure why they would chose to do this to the general public either. It generally made people despise them, and cold towards their cause.
In a situation like this, I would not be against a person in a car first honking to make the “protester” aware, then as slowly as feasible inch towards them. If they don’t move, I feel they are choosing to be run over. If the protesters attack you while in your car, you are no longer obliged to move slowly.
Probably not legal, but I would not see a moral issue with this.
That’s the lawful way to go through such a protest. Slowly and giving every opportunity to move. They can’t hold you captive.
So you both are arguing it’s fine to kill someone if they don’t move out of your way. Cool.
If you think that is lawfully, or ethically correct you are in for a ride awakening. Of you are arguing that is morally correct, you are an evil narcissist person.
I’m done for the day. Got an overdose of internet idiocy.
First off, this is a stawman of my argument. In my example, I say to warn the protester by honking. Then moving forward as slowly as possible. It is possible to move forward at about 1-2 mph in my vehicle. Do you know what the fatality rate is when people are hit by a vehicle moving at those speeds? Even the injury rate is extremely low. I am advocating for giving an asshat a mild bruise, not killing them.
Say you are at the bar and want to leave. Some douche is blocking the door and not allowing you to leave. Do you have the right to leave? If the douche does not move? Can you barge your way though? I think this is a fair analogy.
X2…
I’m not sure if it was in Denver, NYC, or maybe MI…can’t remember. Anyway, read a post online by a nurse who’d driven by protestors on her way to work. She said something along the lines of having to watch multiple people die a day and being unable to help, watching a daughter sob into the telephone as she said goodbye to her father, etc. She was basically just pissed about people screaming at her when that’s what she had to deal with daily.
I’m pretty relieved that I don’t have that job. I wouldn’t want to deal with that. So anyone protesting nurses is dumb, in MY opinion. It’s like protesting soldiers returning from Vietnam. Just be glad you get to sit at home for a few weeks.
I believe Jesus said run over thy neighbor.
The Bible seems to be pretty inconsistent with the moral teachings of God (Jesus normally accepted as part of God).
In one part it says it should make one happy to dash thy enemies babies upon the rocks.
“O daughter Babylon, you devastator! Happy shall they be who pay you back what you have done to us! Happy shall they be who take your little ones and dash them against the rock!” Psalm 137:8–9 NRSV
In my estimation, that seems worse than bumping into someone being an ass. The most likely outcome is a bruise.
Am I really expected to sit on a highway for hours because someone decided to block me on my way to work?
Our resident troll’s fantasy aside, if you intentionally run over a person in the road - even if they are breaking the law by being in the road - you will be charged with homicide in every state in the Union and you will go to prison.
Someone else’s lawbreaking does not give license to murder them. (Unless self-defense, obviously.)
I am guessing a small minority of people that have run over people are charged with homicide.
When it’s intentional and could have been avoided?
