…the point of the meme was to criticize how those in power are handling this pandemic at the moment, and given that you’re quite often rather defensive of Trump, it was interesting to see how you reacted. Less snark, less disdain or disgust, more cold ambivalence.
I wasn’t aware you a libertarian, but that makes me way more amazed at your reaction here.
So you don’t think a President should have been asked questions, but don’t care that when he did he responded that way because he didn’t threaten force and it’s just words?
I don’t know how you keep this stuff straight. You view things in a very bizarre manner.
I’m not sure what that means. Do you think other presidents didn’t make decisions?
You enjoy that Trump seems to make his decisions based off his gut or first instinct and not listening to advice? This seems like the opposite of what you would want in a leader which is why I’m confused.
If I was President which I would never run nor accept the job I would think holy shit I’m in charge of a lot of decisions and I have limited information. I better surround myself with smart people and then make decisions based on their advice and increase my chances of getting more information.
Trump seems to be the opposite. I will do no or limited reading and I will listen to few people mostly those on TV or radio. I will be rigid in my view regardless of information that comes to light as I don’t want anyone to think I’ve changed my mind.
No. I don’t think the President should have anything to do with the response to sickness. His response doesn’t bother me because, even if I took it in the most knee jerk-possible fashion, he’s not either threatening to do something I view as bad or that would expand power. Opening things up would be a good thing, in my opinion. The power to force decisions on the states is well-established here in Murica. Of course, I don’t think he’s talking about forcing anything on the states anyway. He even said something like, when asked about how he’d respond to a Governor not opening up his state, “Well, I’d like to see him get re-elected after that.”
It would have saved us all time if you’d have just said earlier I don’t care what President’s say because it’s just words. I also don’t care what they do because it’s not the first person to abuse power. This actually holds consistent with your position on who cares if a President uses taxpayer money to give to countries for dirt on political opponents.
I think I have said that. I don’t like when they make prices go up with what they say. Check out gas prices right now, though!
I just want to be clear on something: I would much prefer tax money be used to uncover dirt on politicians than just about anything else for which it could be used!
Well, I was hoping people would say, “Damn. This is a reality TV star. Why do I care about anything he says? Edit: And if I don’t care about what he says, why do I care about anyone else in that position?” That hasn’t happened.
Of course it can. And we’ve just come full circle and proven that what the leader of the free world says is important and has the potential to have a great effect on a number of things. So caring about what they say isn’t foolish and hoping the world leader will think before he speaks is quite rational.
But Trump has said he wants to increase oil prices so hopefully he can fix that low gas for you. Unless words don’t matter again.
If the President is the “leader of the free world,” that world is not free.
I would like to see things opened up so, if Trump’s words are enough to do that and he doesn’t even have to do what others have, that’s great!
I’ve said many times that I would rather have a President Paul or Massie. Chance of that happening? About the same as all U.S. Military personnel around the globe returning to the continental U.S. tomorrow.
He’s got the same terrible economic ideas that almost everyone in government has.
It’s an old phrase about America helping lead the way. I chose the words to show that what the American leader has done and said has always been viewed as important at least in modern times.
Why does it matter either way? If a President says they want to use powers or that they have powers the Constitution (which you’ve been arguing is important) says they don’t who cares? You’re now moving towards well I would be getting something I want anyways. So first words don’t matter, then they do. And actions don’t matter if he does what others have before? I think your heads spinning trying to keep your rapidly changing positions in check here.
Ok. So if you don’t have a President Paul or Massie nothing matters? If those people have a really low chance of being elected why think “well may as well defend this wannabe tyrant then.” Trump wants Massie gone anyways.
Perhaps. But he has powerful words and what people think the President will do has the power to change markets, sometimes significantly. He’s working against what he just said was a good thing.
He isn’t a reality tv star; he was a reality tv star.
Well, he is now saying he will adjourn Congress.
And the real problem isn’t what he says and how you feel about it. The problem is that his fans agree with what he says and don’t see it as just words. That’s the real danger to democracy and the constitution; a good number of Americans don’t agree with it.
