Ideas for a Car

Whats up guys. I just turned 18 and now I’m lookin at cars. I want something cheap with a good base horsepower and can be upgraded to no end. Any ideas.

Save your money. Wait 6 months and then decide if you really need a new car.

Spending money on sick rides is retarded. I have the right to say this because I did it.

Long story short, I spent $33k to customize a truck exactly how I wanted. Yeah it was the sickest shit around but I sold it for a (big) loss so I could go to college and now I drive a 1992 Honda Accord that is bone stock and has 230k miles, but I got it for $3k and never had to spend an extra dime on it (aside from oil changes) and it’s killer on gas, I pay next to nothing for insurance, and it gets me EVERYWHERE I need to go with no trouble.

So like tedro said, think about it for a while before you jump into a crazy decision.

My personal philosophy is to never buy a car that you need to keep full coverage on.

I have a '98 f-150 v6, 2wd, 5 speed with 102k miles. Very reliable but not worth a whole lot. Liability costs me $21.83 a month. That makes up for the poor gas mileage.

dont buy a car, take the bus, spend the extra money on a power rack and plates.

then the girls will drive you around and you can beat the shit out of anybody who laughs at you

but a older model benz for 5000

Buy a small truck, like an s10, with a 6 cyl in it, that way its relativly cheap on gas, has decent power, and if the motor ever blows you can throw in a LSx and blow the doors off everyone. Plus you can haul stuff with a truck, which is really handy. Also there is a ton of aftermarket stuff for s10s.

Or you can buy a honda and stick a fart can on it like every other fruit stick on the road these days.

I guess we should probably ask the OP what he’s driving now.

I say go old school, 1950 Dodge Wayfarer. I drove one of these in highschool while my truck was in one state of repair or another. Mine, err my Dad’s, was black, hardtop, 2-door coupe. Back then engineers knew what back seats were meant for and designed accordingly. When I learned to drive it in '94 it had a 3-gear column shift (Three-on-the-tree), and when I graduated in '97 it had 4-in-the-floor, sported a 360ci (5.9L) under the hood and a 3.73 rear-end. I garauntee you will be the only one in school with a classic like this. I’ve seen a few ranging from stock grocery getters, to sunday drivers, to sleepers, to drag racers.

Anything Japanes will get them girls wet.

If you’re an Arnold fan, go with this one.

Customized cars are the shit.

That car looks like shit, and is a complete waste of money

So aside from everyone telling you not to get a car I would suggest a Ford Mustang. They are pretty damn fast for the price, look cool, and have cheap but good upgrades available.

Plus girls love mustangs.

I’ve blown up 2 chevy engines so I can’t suggest buying them unless it’s a vette.

Yeah…well, the owner is probably 18.

early 90’s miata…not the most glamourous, but great gas mileage, good following, and a slightly higher mileage one won’t cost more than 3 or 4k.

i was never into cars looking like a million bucks, back when gas was 0.99 a gallon i had an ex highway patrol impala… plain jane as they come, but i got to drive like a maniac and never got a ticket. but 16 miles a gallon won’t cut it now.

OP- What’s your budget?

Old school 5.0L Mustang. Cheap, reliable, easy to work on and the aftermarket is huge for them.

I’ve got a 97 LT1 camaro and it’s a good time, tons of after market parts around too. Cheap, powerful and reliable.

So I just found out my own 22 year old brother bought a brand new 2007 F-150…

Oh well.

What I’m going to do is buy a 3rd gen camaro or firebird. Up to 245 hp, and you’ll spend max 5 grand on it, most go for around $3k.
Then (when you get more money) LSX engine, then supercharge or Nitrous.
