Those cardio machines keep more clueless people away from the weights. I see nothing wrong with them.
If anything, I think they should make a separate closed off room just for cardio and flat screen tvs. That way we can act like they aren’t even there.
Sounds like a perfect situation, squat rack and a cage no one uses? My gym doesn’t have a cage, maybe I should check out a 24.
I love the 24 hour fitness in my area. It’s where WWF athletes train when they come to Houston, along with Evander Holyfield when he was fighting. That’s where I saw Idrise Ward-el the first time. On a good night there may be 3 or more people who look like they could compete as heavy weights at least. Complaining about who uses the squat rack is simply not something I would ever do.
In fact, many pro’s use the leg press and hack squat more than barbell squats so why rate how effective your gym is by whether people are actively squatting while you are looking at the squat rack?
Yet more reasons to check out 24hr. I currently lift at my college gym so it’s free but that will soon come to an end. They just built a new 24hr about 5 miles from my house, I hope no one uses their squat racks and cages, that’d be awesome.

So they have one power cage, another for squatting and a leg press? What else do YOU need?
Seems to me like the situation was perfect for you; all “the goodness” was generally empty and awaiting your use. I mean, I would be bitching if they were all taken…right.
Am I the only one who noticed that this guy watched these great devices from afar?

*Note i went to the gym to check it out…wasnt doing anything serious! i lifted at home that morning…i wasnt there to do squats/dls/presses/whatever…if i was, i would surely have been using them…

The only 24 hour I’ve been in in a while was when I was teaching my ex dl and squat. There was only one squat rack and one cage but they were both free, so no biggie.
Acres of cardio and ab crunchers though. Sad.

The 24hr where I live is a joke at best, it is not a gym, it is a cardio fitness hamster wheel farm. They have no real bodybuilding equipment, just a bunch of worthless machines that I could max out even after going inactive on weight lifting for 3 years.
Thankfully there is a good gym near by that has a ton of very good equipment, 5 squat racks, 2 hack squat machines, tons of good free weights and benches etc. The gym is still mostly populated by cardio fatties but they are on the lower floor where all the real gym equipment is on the second floor.

The gym I used to lift at had this.
I went to a 24 hour gym where I am now and my head almost exploded.
Cool, yet another bitch about what everyone is doing at the gym thread! People seem to pay more attention to other peoples workouts instead of their own. Could this explain lack of progress for some? Particularly, the ones who come on here starting threads on why they can’t make any progress in their training.

you might want to read what i wrote instead of making a bitchy comment about my supposed bitchy post…is it that time of the month for you???

Sometimes people do squat in the gym where I train. And sometimes I have to wait, sometimes I kick people out for curling in the squat rack…
Last time the squat rack was taken by someone who did a squat like movement. So I took the courtesy doing bent over barbell rows with a bench press barbell… The looked the same way at me when I look at someone doing curls in the squat rack.
I’ve got a brand new 24 here where I’m at and it is nice. Lot’s of benches, free weights, a squat and a power rack. A platform for rows and deadlifts. And an area with all the crossfit equipment. I’m extremely satisfied with the setup.
My 24 Hour has everything I need, and works for me. It’s true people sometimes misuse the racks, but I couldn’t care less as long as the wait time isn’t too long for me to fit in my workout.
I got a great deal when I joined 4 years ago: $580 which covered the first 3 years, and $20/year for the rest of my life after that. I won’t be going anywhere else.

Do a power clean and slam the weight on the ground, aim for the fattest Cardio bunny downstairs.
Not having a piece of equipment should not be an excuse not to do something. I read how some bodybuilders in the past did incline bench press with no uprights by cleaning the weight up and laying back on a incline bench. After the set is over they had to clean the weight back down. Maybe that is why they all had thick muscle mass.
