Weirdly no one uses a personal trainer there but they offer free personal training with there membership
I had a trainer at PF for one day just to check that out. Had I kept them after that it was gonna be $50/week. After one session it was clear I’d be better off on my own, and I was.
Ha yeh :). I hope it works out for ya.
I’d personally like to see a gym owner by a powerlifting co-op. I know, by the Lifters for the Lifters. Heck, I’d be pleased if I could locate some PL’s close by to train with. My gym’s manager said we have competitive Lifters there but they must lift later in the day than me. I did see one guy deadlifting 415 for Reps once. He helped me with my form but we didn’t talk enough for me to find out off he competes. Didn’t even ask his name cause we were both too busy to talk much.
But yeh, u can count on PF to leave anyone who really wants to progress looking for a good gym ![]()
We have the YMCA here. There are 6 branches with a new 7th about 10 minutes east of town in a suburb.
Here’s the marketing video.
I’d say the Y does just fine welcoming the beginners but also caters to people like me. The 5 seconds of strength equipment doesn’t do it justice. Maybe I’ll shoot some video to share next time I go.
We also have several PFs in town. And Genesis Health Clubs.
It’s amazing we still have a culture of laziness and obesity considering how many awesome gyms we have here. They’re not hard core but they appeal to just about everyone.
Question: anyone have any experience with YouFit?
I am thinking of joining because it’s cheap and closeby.
I think it’s pretty munch the same model as Planet Fitness although it offers some classes for double the $10 monthly rate.
I am now getting back into regular work out and I think for someone who is not fit but wants to get into a routine and a habit of actually “liking” to work out, I need to start in an easy going environment.
I figure by the time my membership is up – in a year – I will have improved my fitness level and know if it’s time to move on to Powerhouse Gym.
So give some of use “out of shapers” some credit for at least trying to build up a routine and hopefully and addiction to working out. ![]()
Oh I do, and I sincerely hope you get bit by the bug. Not intended to be disrespectful, just pointing out that there are worlds of difference in the levels of aggression and intensity that span from Planet Fitness to “power lifting dungeon”.
Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of YouFit and can’t help you in that regard, other than to wish you the best and encourage you to give it all you got.
Agree with Skyz:
Hope u get bit by the bug and everything works well :). Better to lift anywhere than not at all. Best of luck!
Wow, Bulldog! That really takes me back. Being 55 years young, I can relate to a lot of the members shown; especially Platz, Christian, Charles Glass, and of course the Barbarian brothers.
Yep… takes me back when I started getting interested in lifting.
