I Walk 3 Miles/Day with a Bag of Books. Should I Still Do Easy Conditioning?

That’s basically it. I have a resting heart rate of about 60 bpm and don’t have much trouble recovering between sets so I don’t feel like there’s a problem with not having dedicated sessions to easy cardio. I’m currently running BBB FSL as per Jim’s newest article and don’t want to impede recovery too much as the 5x10 FSL is quite tough on my lower body as it is.

Am I being an idiot who should go out and condition anyway?

I should say I do the hard cardio when it’s required

Edit: I went and did some 200m runs in the park near my house because I might as well apply theory. It went fine, legs feel a bit better just from increased bloodflow I’d say. If the conditioning kills me I’ll come back and tell you guys

As in your a student? that’s less then 5km right? and your books cant be that heavy.
Relax youll be fine if you do more conditioning. That 5km should be normal non exercise related expenditures, plus makes up for sitting all day.
Get in the habit of doing conditioning also so you wont gain as much fat and you will stay in shape while gaining mass.

My title was edited I think… I walk about 5km a day anyway.

Thanks for the reply, I always did conditioning before but I’ve never done anything like BBB before so I’m not 100% on what’s kosher in terms of conditioning.

Check whats written in the conditioning section of the program, its probable light conditioning 5 days a week or 3 days heavy conditioning.
Having said that though I think if your already acclimated to the walking then its already a base and the conditioning is ontop of it.

2 days hard or 3-5 easy. I think I’ll just stick with the easy conditioning while I’m settling into BBB and if it starts feeling easy I’ll add on the hard stuff.

I think you’re right about it being about adding to your baseline rather than hitting a minimum. Thanks very much for your help, I very much appreciate it.

If your young you should be ok, try it see how it feels. If you need to eat more then eat more. But you shouldn’t lose the capacity to move quickly! a lot of people get into that trap even Jim Wendler says it, at one point he just waddled up to a monolith only able to squat. Obviously extreme case.

That’s a fair point! Use it or lose it I guess. I’ll play around with it myself and see what works and what doesn’t. Currently feeling the effects of the 5x10 FSL squats and feel like my running will look like I’m walking with a weighted vest anyway
