By the way, thanks to everyone who submitted stuff. I appreciate you guys taking time to help out and hopefully others can pick up some suggestions from the list as well.

allofmp3.com looks fantastic.[/quote]

Just so we’re all clear. Allofmp3.com is no different than napster or limewire, except you are paying for convenience. The money goes back to allofmp3.com and not a penny of it makes its way to the labels or the artists(with the possible, and limited exception of russian artists). If you have no moral problem stealing music, that is fine, but otherwise, don’t let the “oh, I’m paying for it, it must be alright” mentality get you.

Ah ha… I knew it was too good to be true. It looked so legit too. I guess I misread the info they presented on the website.

Truth be told, I am not entirely against music piracy. But as an aspiring recording artist myself, I understand the moral argument against it. I think music piracy has probably encouraged the industry a lot more than it has hurt it, and at the same time, with many major label acts, the artists are getting buttfucked anyway, and the only one music piracy REALLY hurts is the label, not the artist.

That being said, from a moral standpoint, it is still kind of questionable. One can argue that there is no real difference between an artist and a beggar, and they have no right to ask for money of their (hard) work. But ultimately, if you feel like something is worth it to you, I recommend just buying it anyway, and buy a t-shirt while you’re at it, since most artists make the majority of their income from merchandise and royalties rather than album sales.

But that is a debate for another thread.

um,damn near anything from Metallica or Crystal Method, even Garth Brooks…yeah i said it

Guano Apes-Euro rock
Daft Punk-Techno with lyrics
Disturbed-Ten Thousand Fists(kickass)
Nickel Back-For All The Right Reasons(again, kickass)
Jason Aldean-Jason Aldean
Brad Paisely-Time Well Wasted
LFO-LFO
Audioslave-any of it
Roy Orbison-any of it

kellerdp’s list is pretty fucking sick. I don’t buzz off the whole indie pop thing but the rest of the list was awesome.

Definitely get:

Big Black - Atomizer

(the album in my avatar, I wouldn’t personally classify this as metal it is just awesome gritty guitar noise played by one of the greatest producers ever before he was ‘famous’).

Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm

(The kings of post-punk, doom, prog. Their songs are incredibly beautiful, dense, layered noise-scapes.)

MF Doom - MM Food

(This guy is at the absolute cutting edge of hip hop these days, he gets name dropped a hell of a lot but actually lives up to the hype and then some).

GZA - Liquid Swords

(An older record. In my opinion one of the crowning achievements in the field of hip-hop. Majestic poetry from start to finish)

King Crimson - Red

(This record IS prog).

Slint - Spiderland

(Arguably the first ever post-rock record. A sonic masterpiece, manages to be heavier than even the blackest of Norwegian metal despite an almost complete lack of distortion used throughout. Crushingly powerful. Quite simply the greatest record ever made).

Mindless Self Indulgence - Frankenstein Girls will Seem Strangely Sexy

(An exhilarating mix of 8 Bit samples, techno, speed drumming, metal and falsetto vocals. A rare occurrence, a band that sounds original, completely untainted by MTV whilst sounding thoroughly modern).

The Living End - The Living End

(A technically staggering punk rock record. A 3 Piece band comprised of a Rockabilly drummer, double bassist and singer/guitarist. The guitar playing is a testament to an era long-gone, virtuosity without pretense. An incredibly fun band to listen to. Punk without the dick jokes or emo-crying).

I could go on for days with recommendations but I’ll stop for now. I sincerely hope you check out the CDs I’ve mentioned, they will provide you with one hell of a lot of listening pleasure.
