How can they know that this then if light is the fastest thing?
Unless the star that blew up is 1000 light years closer to us than the nebula is and we know that the shockwave thingy will take out the nebula 1000 years after then we will see that nebula blow up.
The supernova explosion emits both light and a shockwave. The shockwave is moving slower than the speed of light, while the light from the supernova has already reached Earth for us to see. By looking at the light, we saw a supernova erupt, but the resulting shockwave is moving so slowly that it hasn’t reached the pillars yet from our point of view.
The distances involved blow my mind.

It’s a pretty safe thing to say. No one living today will ever know your wrong, and no one 1,000 years from now will give a shit if you were right or wrong.
However, in 6000 years, someone is going to write their doctoral thesis on whether Ancient English spelled realize with an ‘s’ or a ‘z’. In the following 1000 years, there will be heated scholarly debates over whether the theory that the relationship between geography and use of ‘s’ versus ‘z’ is purely a matter of correlation or also one of causation.
In 7000 years, nobody will care.

I can’t believe that the spelling of realize is now at the centre of discussion in this thread.

In the future, thanks to computers, we will be dumber than dumb and no longer have the need for such big brains because so much memoriSing and thinking is done by computers.
Plus we’re going to be HUGE, about 6 to 7 feet because of improved nutrition and medical science (or that steroids are legal).
Smartphones will cause our extremities to enlarge because the nerve endings in our hands and fingers will need room to increase because Apple is going to continue to add so many amazing apps.
One extremity that will shrink is our testicles due to decreases in male fertility (also likely caused by that damn smartphone and sexting).
We’ll have triple chins and bad posture because of our lifestyle and fewer teeth because we’ll get our nutrition from liquids and pills, which could mean less teeth and receded jaws (thanks Biotest).
All in all it’s a sad state of affairs plus we will be too fuckin dumb to notice any spelling mistakes made by foreigners, anyone see Idiocracy?
