I’m Embarrassed by Americans, Disgusted Even

I agree, it is pretty funny to see all the people from here who were so scared and chastised those who, oh my god, went to the grocery store, or those who knew from the get go that wearing a face diaper didn’t actually do shit! Especially given the fact that most people were idiots and never wore them properly or wore them yet still rubbed their eyes, picked their nose, put their fingers where they shouldn’t.

However I think you’re quite mistaken in your comment regarding conservatives and what they believed in. It was the LIBERAL dumbass people/states that closed everything down, killed many businesses and ruined livelihoods. Look as how all the red states fared vs blue states, now that we are looking BACK on this COVID nonsense. Perhaps you meant to say liberal/progressive/social justice warrior dumb shits?

I knew quite a few conservative or relatively conservative folks, even doctors & medical professionals that saw it as a public health issue. Viewed through that perspective, precautions make sense. Some precautions, when and for whom they’re applicable.

But when its reduced to politics? All gloves come off and it just becomes chest thumping and purse swinging.

Especially in hindsight.

Fair enough, but precautions and forcing shutdowns are not synonymous. I don’t want my doctor following me around forcing lifestyle decisions at any point. It was scary to see how quickly people just forked literal freedom over to the government, and an unfortunate lesson learned by anybody watching.

Yeah, there were political decisions that were made, which were actually completely different from medical professionals.

Having just had a heart attack in mid June 2019, and lots of follow up & complications- The advice from my cardiologist of “be carefull. Don’t take any unnecessary risks.” Is likely completely different than what would be recommended for you.

But people, especially in large numbers, don’t recognize nuance. They don’t differentiate.

I kept my decision making and actions informed by professionals, as they apply to my direct family. Me, wife, & son.

Anything beyond that is outside of my hula hoop.

No, he’s not. He said it was legitimately alarming how many “conservatives” embraced the nanny state. And that’s absolutely correct. He didn’t say that all, or even many, did. I find it disturbing that a single one did.

It’s not a surprise that “liberals” embraced the nanny state; there’s no doubt that they will always embrace any and all government interventions-the whole premise behind their politics is the idea that legislation can bring about societal improvements.

That wasn’t really the point. The point was a politician saying the elderly were expendable. And he said it with the belief that Covid was indeed serious.

It was easy for me, and many others, to not be fearful of Covid but with the information we were given it wasn’t easy to not be afraid for others who were more vulnerable to having serious complications from it.

The lunacy of the deranged right-wing morons of this country.
