I Hope my Kids have Professors Like This: Freedom and Dissent

No one blames violence on guns, mass shootings are blamed on guns. Being a minority in America is a handicap on top of the handicap of being in a low socioeconomic bracket, and people are fighting to change that. And I think college is great for people who want a career that requires a degree, and provided they take it seriously as opposed to getting a degree in comm and partying there face off for 5 years racking up debt. Im a fairly recent graduate and never experienced any kind of indoctrination.

But otherwise, I couldn’t agree more. This world needs more Ron Swanson swagger.

We are talking about kids who can make a decision at the age of 12 that will end any chance of a decent future.

And I’m not talking about coddling but teaching.

The students who are getting “indoctrinated”, IMO, are the ones who are seeking it out. They choose their majors and classes. They come from homes where their parents chose to validate any thought or feeling they may have had and gave them a sense of entitlement. It’s only natural they would choose professors, classes and majors that do the same.

Your posts indicate otherwise. You’ve assumed without evidence that simply being white is an advantage in almost every way without examining the counter examples. There have been reams of articles and books written on this subject, and yet the left continues to reject the evidence that strong families and discipline matter. Pray tell why have the people blaming racism for so many of society’s ills now so willing to openly discriminate against Asians? Maybe something to do with too many of them being successful? Does that not hit you as incredibly hypocritical if not manipulative?

On mobile, excuse the briefness.

  1. Violence will always be there. Guns make it very easy to kill lots of folks, and the very large majority serve no good purpose other than recreation. Therefore disposable in the grand scheme, IMO.

  2. Jews and Asians are stereotyped to be smart, hard working and successful. Blacks and Mexicans are examples of minorities who are not. The portion of Jews/Asians with shit family life like that of Appalachia or ghettos is comparitvly small. If you are arguing against the broad term of ‘minorities’ then sure, I should have been more specific.

  3. Life as an independent adult is scary. Life at college is not… Especially for a liberal arts major.

  4. Being white is an advantage over being black. Poor white kid will get better opportunities, and not be profiled the way a poor black kid is. Agreed the family and socioeconomic factors are much more important, never said different. I said being black is a handicap on top of those other handicaps that white kids don’t face.

What studies find racial equality, not just economically, but socially?

Please expand about the Asian discrimination.

Sounds like you’ve been indoctrinated toward an opposite way of thinking to me…

  1. Your assumption about violence always being there tells me you should get out more. The US is an unusually violent country.

  2. Truth isn’t a stereotype when one is reviewing statistics and looking for causes. That said, “Asians” isn’t a group with any meaning. It’s a massive continent with an incredibly diverse and richly varied cultures. Get out more.

  3. Seriously? Get out more. Besides, “life is scary as an independent adult” is hardly a justification for the expense of college.

  4. Begging the question.

If I wanted to teach wet behind the ears, pseudo-intellectuals who refused to read course material or experience the world, I would have become a professor. It was certainly offered to me.

  1. I thought we were talking about America, no?

  2. stereotypes typically are based upon generalized truths. Sorry for using the same racial terminology you did?

  3. I was referring to many folks’ mindsets. Sameness and familiarity are more comfortable than the unknown for most.

4). ?? What are you trying to say?

Also, idk if it was your intention but you sure come off like a condescending, assumptive prick in the above post. Kinda like a wet behind the ears psuedo intellectual.

The raw data tells a sad story for the black community.

233 black people were killed by police in 2016, with no regard to the actual situation what-so-ever, resulting in .001% of their total population being killed and that’s “…a sad story for the black community.”

Just wow, kid.

You want to minimize the loss of American lives to not even being sad?

What’s with the condescension from members here towards someone with a differing viewpoint/opinion?

Jesus Christ…

I didn’t say the loss of life isn’t sad. You were talking about the “black community” of which an extremely small percentage are killed every year.

The raw data isn’t telling “a sad story for the black community.” It’s saying, “There’s really not a whole lot of police shooting a year and the black community isn’t being hunted like MSNBC makes you believe.”

We’re probably tired of children coming on here and acting like they have a clue what they’re talking about with their 5 whole minutes of life experience.

It’s not the viewpoint, it’s the lack of real-world experience and by extension knowledge coupled with a complete lack of self-awareness and the ignorant notion that you’re right.

Why can’t you have a discussion without resorting to becoming an internet tough guy? Why am I childish to think I’m right and explaining my rationale, but you are superior for disagreeing and name calling?

The percentages of police violence towards black folks is hugely different than the rest of the population. Is that not a problem? Or indicative of a larger problem?

Try having a discussion instead of meatheadedly attacking people personally for disagreeing with your view.

Good grief.

I’m not being an internet tough guy.

You’re a child, not childish because you’re a child (recent grad with no real world experience). If you’re not 21/22 then god help us…

You’re “childish” for using words like “hugely” in a sentence you want taken seriously. That’s called hyperbole. Something children do during a discussion.

No one attacked you. Get a grip.

No, it isn’t unless you’re trying to argue from a per capita angle (which you haven’t thus far). In which case, you’re gonna have to define “hugely” for me.

Again with the personal attacks. Can’t help yourself, eh? Are you really turning into grammar police on an internet forum?

How did you get the idea I was a child? Seriously though, how? I said I was a relatively recent graduate… That says nothing about my age. Maybe I was speaking of grad school, maybe I was a late bloomer. In fact as I’m guessing ex military, you should know a thing or two about older guys going to school. Maybe you just assumed my age because of my opinions and views. Who knows… Well, i have an idea why…

I’ve been arguing percentages and per capita this whole time. Im not sure how you didn’t see that… Everyone else did.

I doubt you would be so confrontational and brash in real life, so why choose to be on the internet? It does nothing to serve the discussion and only serves your own ego.

I didn’t even mention your grammar. Jesus…

By the childish way you are arguing.

No, you haven’t.

Fucking please with this.
