When I was in the Navy a friend of mine was walking back from the enlisted club on base. He heard a woman screaming and ran to see what the problem was. A guy was trying to drag her to a dark area behind a building. It was an obvious rape attempt. He ran over there. The assailant was 5’7" and maybe 155 lb. Watley was 6’3" and 215, had done one tour in the Army and the time I wrestled him I found out how incredibly strong he was. The guy ran. This was 1979 and the guy was wearing those platform shoes. One came off during the chase. Watley scooped it up on the run and when he caught the guy he beat him with his own shoe. Eventually base security caught up and took over. Watley left thinking he’d beat the guy to death.
A week later 5 officers came into the class he was in and asked for him to go to the Commanding Officer’s office. He thought he was going to be charged with murder or assualt. It turns out the guy wasn’t close to being dead although he was unconscious. He wasn’t being charged, he was being rewarded for capturing a serial rapist.

Well, apparantly she decided to file a report after all. On Monday everyone that the owner of the house could name had to be briefly questioned. No one really saw anything so the whole thing looks dead in the water. The officers said that typically the rapist is someone who the victim knew, but if it fell to the other side they rarely found them. Ah well, case closed.
