I am Thinking of a Word

This is a shot in the dark. I love learning new words and the other day I learned a new one and have since forgotten it. Here is the definition, however.

Ok fine its an example. This word describes what you do when, say, you are bowling, and you release the ball and physically lean the way you want the ball to move.

For a younger generation, I do this when I play mario kart as well. When I turn and am not turning sharply enough, I leannnn in the direction I want to go. There is a word for this, I learned it, and forgot it.

Anyone know what I am talking about?

Are you talking about body english?

Thats my guess

Nope… I appreciate the attempt tho. It was really a shot in the dark because I had never heard the word before, and it isn’t like it is used in normal, everyday conversation…

I believe this word that I am thinking of was a verb.

Mimic, mime, imitate, parody? I don’t think there is a specific term for it as it’s kindda context-bound.

You’ll have to create a… a… Neolism to describe it. Something like ‘onomatopoeic’ but for movement not sound.

I have an english literature & linguistics degree from Cambridge and I can’t think of anything sensible.

See if you can find it in here: Centrifugal force - Wikipedia

Regret comes to mind, as in:

I regret the fact that I suck at bowling.

“Impart”?

“Scooch”?

“Waggle”?

Facascatole

All kidding aside, the Mario Kart thing gave it away. That’s called “drift”, at least in that game.

Ha, right.

The word I am thinking of is not scientific. I appreciate the attempts, but I kinda feel like the asshole who asks a question that there could be several answers to, then says “nope not what I was thinking of, try again!” But I don’t see the word I was thinking of here.

This is one of those things that you forget and it REALLY bothers you…

list?

careen?

I don’t know if I did a proper job of explaining it. I have always understood careen to mean what the OBJECT would do.

I am talking about the act of moving your body without thinking in the direct you WISH the object was going.

Unconscious Proprioception?

yes many many of the examples are of the object physically moving like drifting and careen. What I think the OP is talking about is when you move from side to side when playing a game. so you are bowling you let go of the ball and you then begin to slowly lean move to the side you hope the ball goes.

Where did you learn the word to begin with?

Now I’m interested…this word had better be hella cool.

The Force?

is it bigger than a loaf of bread?

This is probably the closest definition of the word. Although the word had more to do with the mind/body connection… as unconscious as it was.

I learned the word on some word site that had a daily word… I look at multiple ones at random times and I cannot remember which one it was. I thought it was interesting because I ALWAYS do that when I bowl, etc., and I love finding very specific words like that. I’ll continue my own personal search and let you all know what I was talking about the whole time, lol.
