Palin is nothing more than a gimmick.
A gimmick with more real experience than the Democratic gimmick for President.
I’m not the one defending the gimmick though.
Which gimmick?
Either one. I hope you’re not voting for someone that you admit is a gimmick. I may write in Ron P still.
Gimmick was your word - not mine. I just used it to compare the republican VP candidate to the dem presidential candidate.
I have stated my voting stance twice on this forum in the last week.
I will not support anyone who supported the $700 Billion bail out of idiots who borrowed more than they could afford.
But if it were a contest between Palin and Obama - I’d vote for Palin. It’s not, so the point is moot - for at least 4 years anyway.

I’ve been avoiding PWI lately. But yea, your position is reasonable. I actually feel the opposite about a contest between Palin and Obama, but like you said that’s not what’s happening.

The best critique of her is that she didn’t answer the debaters questions. I’m sure she’s ignorant on certain issues. I prefer ignorance to devoted Marxism and racialism (call me crazy!). Obama dodges on quite a few issues as well (the troop surge, for example), and the media glosses it over.
You’re starting to make my point for me with some of this sexism.

The problem with Paul was his hammering of the gold standard, Lew Rockwell’s ghost-writing for him, and the fact that many of his followers were completely unhinged paranoiacs. It was off-putting, after awhile. I had a friend who’d start talking about RP, then he’d start talking about 9/11 conspiracies, false flag operations, the Bilderberg groups, Prison Planet, etc. Sheesh.

Eva Braun would be a good comparison, a cute little apolitical girl that likes powerful men that give her shiny things.

The whole point of the first paragraph was that I am not influenced by “foreign” media, not even by American media.
I have seen what you have seen.
Then, what kind of political mastermind you think Eva Braun was and how is that sexist? I think that Bush is a bimbo too.
To call a stupid woman stupid may be rude, but not sexist.

I agree that the gold standard is rubbish, but he’d never implement that anyway. Overall I like his logic.
You’re starting to make my point for me with some of this sexism.
But before that PR wrote:

So what were you saying about sexism?
What’s sexist about her turkey neck?
Is “son-of-a-bitch” sexist as well? [/quote]
Probably, and I seriously start to wonder whether that insult does not go back to the crusades, because dogs are unclean for Muslims, whereas I do not know of any European culture where “dog” is a real insult.

How many women do you know who cry “sexism” when their male friends are called an SOB?
It’s an insult. Plain and simple. No sexism intended.

“Turkey neck” applies to men as well. “Bitch,” while it does apply only to females, also happens to be descriptive of Couric. You should have seen her interview of Ann Coulter.
Wow. “Bitch” doesn’t go far enough. Me calling her a “bitch” is sort of like saying that the sky is blue. Since Couric herself calls other people bitches, I can get away with using the term myself without too much of the sexism taint:
“Bitch” is just a term for a malicious, spiteful, domineering, angry female. That’s Couric to a ‘T.’

Fair enough. I think it’s probably time I got off this thread. We’ve all said what we’ve needed to say, and now we’re just repeating ourselves.
Scarborough is a douchebag. He reminds me of those 40+ wannabe tough guys you see at the mall with their overweight, domineering wives leading them into the GAP to buy some “mom pants”.
He stands by the change room, sulking, sneering at all the young guys with really hot girlfriends dreaming of his days in high school when he was on the football team, kind of like Al Bundy, only not nearly as cool.
His only way of dealing with the pain of being a has/never been is making snide remarks about people who have what he never did and never will… Happiness and satisfaction in his bleak, hate-filled life.
Can conservatives just be honest here for a minute? I want to like Sarah Palin, she is a real deal social conservative, but what’s to like? We’re talking about a one-term governor who:
Has academic qualifications that could charitably be called “mediocre.”
Supported the most symbolically wasteful earmark of them all (the Bridge to Nowhere) until it became expedient to reverse course. Nevermind that earmarks are a tiny part of our problems and fighting a campaign on them speaks to a party that is completely bankrupt of ideas.
Since being added to the ticket has done nothing more than mouth empty bromides (maverick, victory, etc.) to the point that any time she speaks you could play a drinking game on the spot.
Has NO knowledge of international affairs (maybe the best example is attacking Obama for his “reckless” claims that our airstrikes in Afghanistan are stupidly killing civilians, when anyone can see this is true, but there are dozens).
Is trying to turn the campaign into a fake-populist culture war, in which anti-intellectualism is to be celebrated.
Remember when conservatives were about competence and decried identity politics? Can we just admit those days are long dead in the Republican Party, and they’ve put someone up for one of the highest offices in the land on the basis of gender, a cute face, and her tax bracket?
I don’t hate Palin at all, but come on. There’s nothing there.

The American Conservative ideology is dead. It has morphed into an perverse blend of anti-intellectualism, religious pandering, and a Rovian cynicism and viciousness. The destruction at the voting booths will be the nail in the coffin and hopefully real conservatism emerge.
I think it may be soon enough. The GOP has alienated the young and the educated–Doctors, lawyers, scientists, even investment bankers for God’s sake–who are not interested in the reactionary GOP agenda.

that’s why real conservatives should be flocking here in droves.
