Husband and Wife on V-Diet

yup, reflectors, so the cars can see me when I’m doing curls in the squat rack at night

Day 24:
Had a great workout today, interval cardio and arm day. I increased both weight and reps. The scale says…well who cares. I’m STARTING to see six pack where the keg used to be.

(OK, weight is 184, three pounds from my starting weight! I guess I have put on as much LBM as I lost in fat – magic).

Four days to go, no problem. I certainly haven’t lost as much fat as I expected to when I started, but it hasn’t been a bad experience or really that difficult.

Day 27:
Wow, I had a great leg workout today. Up in both weight and reps on everything.

Scale: 182 today (starting weight 187) Photos tomorrow.

I have kept carbs below 30g/day for a week and have increased my fish/flax oil intake for fat, I am going to transition directly into the “second starter week” of the ANABOLIC DIET when I finish the V-diet.

My calories for the v-diet have been around 1500 /day on average. When I go to the AD I am going up to about 2000 /day to see if I can keep some of the belly fat disappearing.

You’re skipping the proper 2-week induction phase? I wouldn’t recommend that. There is more than just going low-carb to the induction phase. The idea is to have 60-70% of your cals from fat so that you train your body to use that as the primary fuel source. I’m not sure what the “second starter week” is, so maybe you are still doing at least some sort of induction.

I am counting my last week on the v-diet as my first week of the AD induction phase. My carbs have been below 30g /day and my fat intake has been 60-70g/day. Percentage wise, fat has been around 40-50% of my calories this last week (my calories have been really low).

I’m calling that good enough for the first week of the AD (so next week is the “second” starter week for the AD).

day 28 and done!
Yesterday was my last day on the v-diet. This morning my weight was 125.5, so my total loss was 8.5lbs. I am very pleased with that, but even more so, I am pleased at the new habits that I have formed. I have such a sweet tooth, and I think to “quit” refined sugar cold turkey was the best way to do it.

Now my cravings are for fresh fruits and veggies, fish, even cottage cheese! I am so much more in tune with my body and what I am putting in it!

I did have something weird happen the days 26 and 27, though. I was extremly tired, lethargic, even nauseus and felt horrible. Up until that point (through most of week 2, 3 and most of 4) I had been feeling fine and had regular energy levels. I wonder what was going on?!

Anyway, these 28 days has been a good exercise in discipline and has given me a new appreciation for simple “clean” eating!

You do realize the first two weeks you are supposed to eat 18X your BW in cals? For me that was 4000 cals/day, with 60% of that fat, or likely twice what you were eating on the V-Diet. I would be leary of doing a major carb up after only one week of following the AD like it’s meant to be.

Good luck either way.

Good job. Feels good to see it all the way through doesn’t it?

Day 28: Completed.

Results:
End weight: 180 lbs, lost 7 lbs. (starting weight 187)
End waist: 33 inches, 2 inches lost (35 inches at start)

Final thoughts:
I did not achieve the dramatic fat loss I was expecting, but I did lose some fat and I feel the diet was a good exercise in self-discipline. I think the best thing about this diet is the ease of counting calories (one scoop at a time).

Would I do it again? Maybe, this could be a nice way to slim down for an upcoming beach vacation or something like that, and only takes a month.

Lessons learned:
Avoid soy protein, don’t skip the fish oil, keep the fiber coming to keep things moving. Carbs are not necessary. I rarely felt hungry on only 1500 Cal per day. It’s hard to get a six pack(!)
