Billy Stinson comforts his daughter, Erin, as they sit on the steps where their cottage once stood in Nags Head, North Carolina. The home, built in 1903 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was destroyed by Hurricane Irene.
Some of my growin-up years happened right here. Shucks.
Haven’t yet heard how the family there fared.
Eh, it can be a few weeks for utility companies to deem directly hit areas safe to service. Bummer about your childhood spots… Allison took my childhood treehouse FWIW. Lots of summers, playboys, stolen beer, first kisses and pot experimentation there.

our version of the “Goat Island Yacht Club” after Hugo. not fake.
the actual damage here in north jersey doesn’t seem bad, except for a house blowing up in pompton lakes (gas leak) and a section of the slow lane of 287 north over the boonton river collapsing into the river. the flooding, however, is unreal, just like it was in march when it rained endlessly for weeks. route 46 is pretty much closed, especially on the way to my gym =( 23 south by pompton plains was already closed today and the rivers aren’t supposed to crest until tomorrow…

You’re by where I live.
The flooding here has been incredible. Worst flood in over a hundred years, dwarfed the massive 1984 flood.
Roads will be closed for a while as the Passaic begins to crest tonight.
cool beans bro, I just moved to an apt complex in pine brook last November. the industrial park across the way is totally flooded. half an hour or so ago I thought I heard a boat or a jetski but it looked like some nut was tooling around in his truck. whereabouts are you?
speaking of jetskis, google “jetski Newark”. I lol’d.

Central Connecticut shoreline got hammered. We’re estimated to be without power for 10 days. Water is a powerful force to recon with.

Crawling from the wreckage.

Rip the roof off the motherfucker.

True story:
A few weeks after Ike hit some buddies and I went out on my boat to do some fishing but mostly to check out the ocean. We went up to 40 miles off shore and saw roofs and large pieces of homes floating around all the way out. It was very surreal.
The coast gaurd advised boaters to keep an eye open for bodies and make necessary reports. Fortunately we didn’t see any (by this point that would have surely sunk or been eaten anyways) but lots of your missing houses are floating out in the ocean right now and many are undoubtedly miles away on a current. Crazy stuff.
I saw somebody’s cedar deck wash by yesterday. The picnic table and chairs were still on it. Too bad my camera battery was dead. Can’t charge my phone, either. The road to the beach was washed out. We just got car passage this morning. I’m at work now.
RV has put his foot in his mouth so many times, his breath permanently smells like bad sneakers.
glad to hear everyones ok. just glad you only had to experience a cat 1. I know SOME people were not impressed. just come down south when a cat 3 or 4 comes in. we’ll put your ass in a house on the beach and see what you think.

Oh silly tough guys. Not to be a silly tough guy myself but you guys got a typical SE Texas summer rain storm. Give it back though, this drought is a fucking buzzkill. And then improve your water retention systems, bc if global warming is real you can expect to join the sub-tropical club on a regular basis.
It’s funny how people, myself included, are so intrigued by mother nature. When hurricanes are projected for my area, even though I know they are dangerous, potentially deadly and very expensive, I can’t help but kind of hope it is a big motherfucker.
I’ve been through a number of hurricanes but I just remember Ike as our rivers and bayous were literally flowing backwards 60+ miles inland days before he hit. I thought it was so powerfully cool though a definite warning of things to come.
He was only cat 2 for us though he shut parts of our city down for a month or longer. I felt really sorry for Cuba and other Caribbean Isles as he hit them and their inferior architecture at Cat 4. It must have been a wet hell. Even so, the Texas aftermath resulted in the largest search and rescue mission in US History.

I was just south of Miami when hurricane Andrew hit in 1992. No need to tell me what 165 mph winds can destroy. Let’s not turn this into a pissing contest. I lived through that devastation, too, and it’s all bad. And that’s what I think.
