Hurricane Helene Aftermath

It seems like a murky picture of reality is your problem, not anyone else’s in this thread. You’re the one suggesting that the opinions of a grown man and former St. Louis policeman in his 40’s are a result of social media brainwashing and that Joe Biden is in charge of the government.

All you can seem to do is speak in broad narratives to express disagreement with conservatives.

My power just came back on tonight. Its been a crazy week.

I live north of greenville sc, about 45 minutes south of asheville. Here was mostly wind damage. Trees and powerlines down everywhere. We couldn’t drive anywhere the first two days because trees were blocking every road. Sunday a few gas stations got power and it was crazy lines. Some stores had power and people were panic buying. Home depot and lowes came up and they got wiped out of everything.

Ive talked to coworkers with family in western nc and its rough. Stories of bodies in backyards after the rivers retreated. We visit lake lure occasionally and from what i hear, parts are gone. Chimney rock in particular.

It is amazing the power companies got us back up in a little over a week. The entire electrical infrastructure had to be rebuilt in areas around me and still a ton more work to do. New poles, wires, transformers. Still driving over lines in every direction. A couple roads got washed out.

We were okay though. Just cold showers and cooking on the fire. The kids (5 and 7) missed electronics, but we made due.

Edit: as far as the federal response is concerned, theyve been flying chinooks out of the Donaldson center up to NC for rescue and aid. In SC its mostly a private and local response. The roads are open because good ole boys with chainsaws got to work. Cant say for sure whats going on in NC.

Lol… dude I’ve been all over this planet…served in Iraq, hurricane Katrina aftermath, 15 years a cop in St Louis. I have a pretty good constitution on these things. I’ve seen far too many times the consequences of failed liberal bullshit.

I’m flattered you remembered that! ty

Liberals caused a hurricane?

It has such clear echoes of 2014-2015.

“We’re smarter, better, more educated” etc.

“We don’t need those people”

Etc.

Like, they can’t stop sniffing their own leftoid vegan low fat wine farts long enough to Realize that this is actual devastation and not a politically fortuitous windfall.

Bahahaha… no shit. The Mutual Admiration Society…that can’t change a tire or discern an AR from a toaster. Men can get pregnant… Drag Queen story hour. Cheering on children in drag… ICK

Fully agreed. The scale of destruction is generationally large. I heard a geologist saying that the flooding and landslides will be one of the most notable events in the geologic record for the region thousands of years from now. And we still don’t have a full grasp on the scope of death and destruction. This is a tragedy and a time for empathy and to help fellow man, not a time to focus on scoring political points.

I’m about to give you a big manly hug you sonofa…

I believe it. I was talking to a friend who is a truck driver and does i26 and i40 quite a bit. We were talking about how long it would take to rebuild some of the bigger roads that washed out. I was optimistic and he goes, "Nah bro, some spots wont ever be the same. You cant rebuild the whole side of a mountain. " kind of puts it in perspective.

And now Milton is headed toward Tampa. I saw it’s supposed to get to Cat 5 by the time it hits the Tampa area? JFC.

Also heard some weather models are showing another tropical storm forming in the western Gulf on the heels of Milton. Hoping that one peters out.

Short term human tragedy aside. How is the insurance market in FL and the southeast going to survive this? Can you imagine paying homeowners insurance for decades, and when you need to finally use it the insurance company says you and your destroyed house are on your own!?

The federal government will bail people out.

Milton gets to a Cat 5 before making landfall (as it currently is a Cat 5). Conditions are not favorable for Milton to maintain its strength.

In the immediate aftermath? or long term the federal govt partners with private insurance to underwrite policies?

Whatever we want.
