Hunting for Beginners

Speaking of Texas hog hunting…This is how you do it
oh. my. god. I must do it.
Bauber wrote:
Hog hunting is fucking fantastic. You should really try it with a large hunting knife and running them with dogs covered in Kevlar vests.

Also hogs are considered a pest so there is no limit.
Then here in Kalifornia you have to get a tag for every hog and they cost $15/tag…with talk of the price going up…once they realized that people actually wanted to hunt the overpopulated pests, our idiots in the state government couldn’t wait to squeeze every dime they could…

Invest in a flak jacket with ceramic inserts, first.

Generally speaking, the biggest dumbasses you will ever find will be the ones hunting on public land.

Just get a lease and do it right.

Slight difference.
I have seen a giant Russian red sow (looked like a hippo with a Mohawk down its back) sitting in a frack water tank in Big Lake, Texas. Easily 500lbs.

We all just stood on the rig until she left. Pulled up the stairs.

(Can’t have firearms on location, sadly.)

Apparently, some asshole imported Russian boars in the late 1890s and they got loose.

I wouldn’t get a Mosin-Nagant for a first hunting rifle.
I missed the side of a barn with a Mosin-Nagant. Unless you get a special one, they are NOT hunting weapons. Piss-poor rifling and inconsistent shell seating.

They were designed to be shot by masses of Russian peasants at the same time, in a group, by a government that was short of capital, but had plenty of people to throw at things.

Is that because people usually shoot each other in Public land?

They are crowded. They take anyone. They attract people who cannot afford a lease or know someone with a lease or land. They have few animals, and the animals are wary.

Basically, it’s the difference between your own car and a subway at rush hour.

Just a really good way to get shot by an idiot.

As TTR said, and add in that people get “buck fever” or what ever, and some are territorial as hell.

An ex boyfriend of my sister decided he was going to be a hunter. So off he went to gander mountain and bought the clothes, a decent gun, hunting licence and yadda yadda yadda.

Then he went out into a decent patch of woods where a nice herd of deer were known to hang out. Got into a nice spot right off of a nice game trail and made himself comfortable.

Then someone who he couldn’t see and had no idea was anywhere near put a warning shot into the tree he was leaning against, right above his head.

Exactly why I will never live in California. I don’t even consider it part of the US.

I guide duck hunters in N. TX. Have a bad-assed dog and yes, my clients all tend to be self employed and or have money. The banter that goes on in a duck blind is hilarious. Something you can’t normally do in a deer blind. I’m definitely addicted.

I’ve heard if you’re thinking about using that round, you should be looking at something chambered in .223.
