Hughes vs GSP, Sept 23

Today on ESPNews GSP and Hughes officially announced that Hughes vs GSP will take place on September 23. Start the predictions folks! This looks to be the best UFC title fight of the year up this point IMO.

I really can’t pick a winner yet, I’m going to have to mull it over for awhile before I place my bet. I’d like to hear the thoughts of the posters here.

Spike for the win!

haha, errhhh… sorry horrible joke.

Yeeeeeeessssss!!!

Right on; very exciting news! Might actually be worth the PPV charge this time??

Hughes is amazing. GSP is amazing. Skill-wise they seem nearly identical because neither fighter has any serious flaws in any part of their game. But wathcing GSP fight, the guy is a natural born killa. I’m gonna pay the PPV charges and call the fight for GSP in a 2 round submission.

For me, it doesn’t matter who wins the fight. I have alot of respect for both athletes and just hope they put on an exciting show. And I believe we all should have gotten our money back for the last PPV. The heavyweight title fight was a complete joke. It looked like a sparring match between the two. Arlowski just kept throwing jab, jab, cross over and over again, and Sylvia wouldn’t throw any good counters even though he could get what punch was coming next. I was furious. Also on the Tito and Shamrock fight. I thought the fight was stopped too early and not because I thought Shamrock had a chance. It was stopped to early because it nows gives Shamrock a scapegoat to talk more garbage and maybe set up a third fight that nobody wants to see. Rant over…sorry.

I guess that would be almost as good as matts’ first round armbar submission of gsp. I’m gonna say Hughes gnp tko 3rd round.

you said it brother. I won’t even want to watch the third fight if it happens and i certainly don’t want to hear the poison thats going to come out of shamrocks mouth about it. Old man, your time is done, go home.

I’ve been looking forward to GSP vs. Hughes for a long time now, i think its going to be a really good fight to watch. I don’t think i can touch this one on the betting, unless they come out with rediculous odds.

It’s going to be damn tough to beat Hughes because his confidence is surely at its peak. After all, he made Gracie look like an amateur.

But if GSP doesn’t make any mistakes, I think he can beat Hughes. Although, not making a mistake is very tough against someone as well-rounded as Hughes.

Bottom Line: I’m with you Donut, I’ll need to mull it over, too.

That was in 2004. Since then GSP has won his last five fights including dominating sherk and Trigg and winning a close decision over Penn. GSP has matured alot since his first fight with Hughes. Did you see Hughes fight Penn in 2004, Penn wrapped him up in a read naked choke in the first round. Its going to be a close fight but I think that GSP has improved more then Hughes in the time since they last fought.

Im trying to get psyched, but I’m having a hard time. I wasn’t impressed with GSP in his last fight against BJ, and think the win could’ve gone in either direction. I would love to see a change of the guard at 170, but I don’t think this is gonna be it. Hughes by vicious ground n pound in the 2nd.

I don’t know, I was watching the clip earlier and GSP was saying he’s more experienced and mentally ready now, I hope that doesn’t translate into meaning,“I’m going to take him down and sit on him like I did against BJ.”
