HT's What The Hell Am I Doing Part II

Big lifts over here. Nice work dudes.

HT- Amazing what affect ‘the better half’ can have on your ‘gym head’, eh? Hope you heal right right up. Still impressive pulls.

HT
good luck with the arm.

Ever time I come here, there is someone older, more banged up then me,
moving far far more then me.
I like the style of this thread.

have the beginnings of a little bruising on the underside of my upper arm, a small line of purple between my biceps and triceps. the arm is still stiff and sharply painful, but it hurts when i PULL, not push. makes me think that i tore a lat muscle where it attached to my upper arm? what do you guys think?

so tons of GHR and weighted back raises, and maybe even high rep GM until this gets better.

yesterday

box squats, used manata ray on all sets.120kgx10, 130kgx10, 140kgx10, 150kgx10, 160kgx10

romain chair abds. 3x15

HT-how is the arm feeling? Not sure if its your lat.
Barry-how are you Big Brother.I will call you later on today.
QT-hope to hear from you soon.

hel-I have to train on a rushed schedule sometimes due to work. When I train those lifts on seperate days the reps go down and the weight goes up! The volume is ok for short periods.
I could not train this week due to my work schedule. Hope everyone is well and a great weekend to the crew.

Anybody got a Inzer discount code. My last 3 workouts have been the best in memory. Time for some gear. Sorry i’m so cheap.

hey guys… recycle the 5/3/1… strict pressing is something i CANNOT do for heavy reps due to my elbow surgery and my needed shoulder surgery. heavy squating is no no sec to my partial torn left knee meniscus. i think that is why i am getting so many groin injuries on my left side when i try to squat heavy. So the answer?

strict pressing (bench and military for example) are now ASSISTANCE. done for HIGH VOLUME… 5x10, 10x10 ect.

same for squatting- 10-20 reps(full squats, gonna leave the box alone for a while and see what happens)/

the 4 movements i will try to improve on in this cycle of 5-3-1 are:

  1. power clean

  2. deadlift

  3. behind neck push press(this is 80% legs for me, so elbow and shoulders are less of an issue)

  4. chins.

squats and pressing will be done for high volume as assistance.

today.

  1. power clean 80kgx5, 90kgx5, 100kgx5. all sets very very easy.

  2. olympic style squats 3x10x120kg

  3. pulldown abds 2x15

100kgx5 was easy? I may get 1 or 2. You’re a strong SOB. I may work these into my 5/3/1 routine as well.

ya, they were, felt like an empty bar. i have not done cleans in a LONG time, ill have to check back in my log, but close to a year maybe?

thing is, i have to be very careful with cleans. i can overtrain them pretty easy, once every 7-10 days is max, and i would take the advice of Dan John, if you want your pulls to progress and not get stale, you need to def. keep your squats light(10-15 rep range).

wed

bodyweight chins x5, 5, 7

blast strap pushups with one chain on back, 5x10

barbell curls 5x10x60kg

today

deadlift 170kgx5, 190kgx5, 210kgx9 pulled left groin again and strained left low back.

back raises 60 reps

abds 60 reps

tabata airdyne bike.

HT, damn groin won’t give you a break. Hope it heals up soon.

I’m the same way (being cheap). I find working discount codes on the net all the time via google.com

good one this morning.

bnpp 1x3x90kg, 1x3x95kg, 1x8x100kg.

a1 bench press/board press combo 90kg 5 sets. what i would do here is bench to chest to failure, then add a 2 board then go to failure, then a 3 board and go to failure. my first set went like 10-4-3 last was like 6-3-2

a2 fat man chins 5x15

b1 barbell upright rows 2x20x40kg
b2 barbell curls 2x12x50kg

massive pump!!!

GET GEAR AND DO IT BARRY!!!

Hey guys, glad to see you’re all doing pretty good and strong as hell. Especially you HT, I can remember a time when your bad injury forced you into mainly assistance and rehab exercises and you wondered if you would really come back. Well obviously you have and are pulling like crazy which is very inspirational.
I got a question for you guys. I’ve put some WD-40 in my brain so that its working better and I’m working out pretty hard again. I still have my dream of competing in Master’s OL, with my powersnatch at about 215 and my clean and jerk close to 290 (jerk is not quite there yet.) Still need about 25lbs on each to win the American championship, and my shoulder is barely hanging on due to the strain of snatching and jerking.
Meanwhile, my PL lifts have come up, not up to your guys level but hit 315/375/475 in the past month. Oddly, I’m enjoying PL more and it hurts my joints less.
I realize my PL numbers, even with 50 lbs more per, arent gonna win anything special but I might enjoy PL competition. I just am not sure on what to focus on right now. I have a feeling that if I’m really serious about my OL goal, I probably need to quit chasing max PL numbers and keep squats and DL’s lighter, more explosive…and sometimes I think benching has really reduced my flexibility.
Anyway, any comments from you guys I would appreciate. I either need to really commit to competing or just accept training hard for the fun of training hard. Doc
