exactly Brett. the pulling position for the OL and deadlift does not bother my knee at all. squats are becoming less and less tolerable due to back and knee issues.
though I am pretty sure deep squatting is not the cause of my left knee issues, more than likely nearly 15 years of rotational throwing (shot, hammer, HG), but knee issues are what is keeping me from squatting now.
All I know is I repeatedly hurt my left knee and my low back squatting.
I used to be able to get to 600lbs in the squat without my knee or back injuries creeping in, then 500, then 400’s, then 300’s now seems 200’s are causing problems.
I need to accept that squats are no longer part of my program…like good mornings, pulls from a deficit, and bench presses.
the good news is that my PC is looking as good as it has in YEARS. the 150kg I hit a week ago is the best since the late 90’s early 2000’s for me.
pretty sure Hel / brother love cleans 150kg every morning upon waking up just to stretch out and get the blood flowing before he has his first cup of coffee, but for me, I am happy.
not too much training since i have been moving into the new house…here is the last few.
fri- press, 80kgx2, 90kgx6, 100kgx4
sat- front squat during the move i found an old pair of single ply briefs, and some knee wraps, so i put them on with a belt and decided to see what I could front squat for a heavy single. 220kg x 1!!! wow. gear whoreing at its finest. gear or no gear…prod of a near 500lb front squat since only like 4 months ago i tore the shit out of a quad muscle.
before the quad tear I had been hitting 130-150kg for reps, 100% raw, no belt, nothing.
since the quad tear, 100-140kg raw.
the gear added LOTS. but i think some of it was mental. with the suit and wraps compressing my thighs and knees, and belt supporting my back, i was pretty much fearless as I worked up.
I think I could hit 160-170kg raw if my mind was not holding me back, IE fear of re-injury.
sunday- upper back stuff, chins, csr, hammer strength stuff…lots x lots
monday- dips 5x20, dumbbell curls 5x20
moments ago- power cleans 100kgx4, 110kgx1, 80kgx12 took it real easy on the cleans, have a minor forearm muscle tear suffered while moving furniture from the old house to the new house…so I was baby-ing it.
mo0ments ago, deadlift belt only, 230kg x 1, 250kg x 1, belt and wrist straps 270kg x 1!!! then 210kgx7, and 170kg x 11. got videos! so proud of myself. 4 of the plates wer actually 45lb metal plates, so it was more like 272kg(598lbs)
I never thought I would pull near 600 again. fuck I am happy!
Just here trying to learn from the big fellas and shoot the shit. Good stuff here, man. Marked it as favorite.
I didn’t know you had kids, HT. Are you one to show kids some workouts and see if it “sticks” ? Or do they just step aside and let you do your thing? I know your wife lifts (lifted?) with you.
ponse…my wifes son trains with me sporadically. my daughters live with their mom across the country and not sure they even know I lift weights…thanks for asking though.
No need to be sarcastic, it’s just unusual to see someone struggle to break it off the floor at their first attempt and then with no rest immediately blast it up real quick. Figured you may have lost grip or something (it was out of shot).
coulple of thinks…I was scared of this weight…I tore my quad recently doing trap-bar deadlifts, so I had in the back of my mind that I should have stopped at 252, and I probably was gonna get injured again if I tried this one.
a lot of that is mental with me…I am so often injured I hold back a lot. hence the HUGE pop I got from some modest gear recently in the front squat that we already talked about. with my thighs and knee and back supported, I just had no fear to really went all out.
also, I tend to an explosive lifter. at diablo barbell, on speed days I was squatting with the 800-900lb squatters, because with submax weights, I was just as fast as they were.
but they would crush me on max effort days.
I would hit 635, make it look like a warm up, then get crushed with 650.
the other guys, they would grind out 635, then grind 650, then 675, etc…

not sure that made any sense. [/quote]
It means you were meant to be a strongman, not a powerlifter. (see recent article on explosiveness)
