HT's What The Hell Am I Doing Part II

Hi gang! Checking in to see how everyone’s doing…hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July! Congrats to Michael, once again. I enjoyed the videos, as usual, and looks like your nephew takes after his uncle! I train from time-to-time, but nothing consistent.

I have made some progress since starting the IVIG infusions and have hope that they will allow me to continue with this therapy as I think it will benefit me in the long run & I may actually be able to post some workouts that I hope to be doing again. ugh. horrible day today… i dont think mhy changes are gonna work out at all. i was NOT recovered from deadlifts monday. so squats today sucked.

letting the glue set on a new set of prowler skids, so no prowling tonight. will do prowler tomorrow.

After countless blood tests, doctor’s visits, EMG/NCV tests, Spinal Tap, I’ve been diagnosed with Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. An auto-immune type of disease where my body’s immune system has targeted my motor/sensory nerves and they are degenerating because of it.

Affecting my lower extremity more tahn my upper at this point, but I have symptoms in both places. This is one explanation of why no matter how hard I trained or what routine I used, my strength levels and muscle size kept decreasing over the last 2-3 years…my 1RM in the squat at this point is ~220-225, mainly cause I can’t walk much more weight out w/o losing my balance and really hurting myself - there is some pain while actually squatting but my muscles just seem to shut down at various points in the ROM.

My 1RM in the BP is between 300-310…my dips are still ok but pull-ups numbers are down to less than 10 reps with BW. I walk with a pronounced limp from weakness in the lower extremity…my quads, hams, calves look like I just got out of a concentration camp. My arms and forearms are almost as bad looking, but still maintain some residual strength from years of training I guess. No more about me…congrats once again…train hard/stay strong my brother in Iron!

dear god Art…what is the prognosis? is this a progressive type disease? treatment options?

intense day today with the prowler. 6 40 yard sprints with 135lbs, all with the lowest handles. did i mention it was 100 plus degrees?

funny thing about the prowler, the more horrible and miserable the session, the more awesome it is. i think i am getting addicted to the fighting for a breath, on the verge of vomiting, near death experiences with this piece of equipment. if i miss a day or two…i feel like I’m getting soft. lol

today, for early am cardio, i did an interpretive African dance class…then some yoga to cool down,

Pm session, worked on my short game (puts and chip shots) on the local course, and then took a spinning class.

not too much to report on here…just getting back into the swing of things after my wedding, took two weeks off, now im back to work.

dropping the vacation pounds, i ballooned up to 227-229, now i am back down to 221-223

experimenting with the conditioning/lifting mix, backing off the frequency of conditioning, but increasing the intensity when i do do it.

have not poste for a long time…so here is what has been going on.

i have been too beat up for any real weight training…my elbow, shoulder, knee and back are just fucked.

shoulder and back are so bad right now that i can barely sleep at night…ugh.

so really, the last 10 days i have been training like a “fighter” more than anything else. with exception of heavy rowing, all i have been doing is bodyweight stuff and prowling.

i train pretty much everyday…and i do:

prowler
bw one leg squats, and lunges
chins
dips
pushups
dumbell rows
barbell curls
glute ham machine

the reps go from about 50-100 on the bodyweight stuff

rowing is as strong as ever…150’s for 8-12, 175’x for 4-6, 110’s for 20
curls are hit or miss. when my left ceps insertion is feeling good, 135 for 4-6 sets 4-6 reps, when not i do sets of 10-20 with 65-95lbs. these are standing barbell curls with some cheat.

did 20 bw dips for the first time in YEARS the other day…form not horrible, but nothing i would brag about.

i can get 15 bw dead hang chins now on my first set.

bw is 223-225, ill post pics soon, cause i am getting “huge” all the conditioning and high rep stuff is blowing me up.

gaining weight but looking just as lean, maybe leaner, 228lbs. all the conditioning and boot camp stuff is still working.

check this though…just for shits and giggles yesterday, i benched. did a few reps with 110kg, and got 120kgx1. holey shit. this is a post elbow surgery pr for bench press for me. considering my right shoulder is so messed up i cannot overhead press an empty bar right now, and my left triceps is so weak i cannot do a triceps extension with a 25lb dumbbell with it…what the hell?

Mike I still admire the fact that with a beat up body instead of bitching and moaning abut it you are doing what you can to still train. That takes dedication and class my friend. Big ups for keeping it going! No quit in ya!

thursday i actually did a few deadlifts. 100% raw…after warm ups did this: 140kgx10, 170kgx1, 100kgx28. thats right, 28.

continued my bench weirdness/WTF? moments check this:
60kgx25, 70kgx15, 80kgx10, 90kgx5, 100kgx1, 110kgx1, 120kgx1, 130kg x 1!!! this, again from a guy who has no left triceps, and cannot press the empty bar overhead or lift right hand over shoulder right now. another post surgery pr! the 130 was not easy, but not a max. if i was not alone in the garage, i might have tried 140kg. this is with my left elbow with 2 elbow sleeves on it for the final 3 sets.

i almost puked after this one. took a while for my stomach to settle…did not eat or drink anything untill nearly 3 hours after…don’t know if that was bad or good or indifferent.

heart felt like it was going to explode, lungs burning…but my joints and insertions felt warm, loose and recuperated. the prowler is awesome, but it can beat you up a bit…sometimes some easy cardio in the air conditioned gym is a nice break.

btw… bw 223lbs. cant seem to break the 220 barrier again. shit. was aiming for 205, but now i will settle for 215 as a short them goal.
