HT's What The Hell Am I Doing Part II

I am not sure Barry knows how strong he is.

I felt beat up after a crazy 13 hour night shift in the trauma center. knees and feet aching, and i had to get up early only after a few hours of sleep due to family commitments. so i stayed away from the gym and decided to do a strength/conditioning type workout with the emphasis on conditioning.

  1. prowler 10 trips, added plates each trip, last 2 trips with 10 plates. this was brutal, but invigorating. lungs felt like they were going to bust, legs were super pumped, and upper back and triceps were jacked.

  2. glute ham raises, 5x10

  3. back raises 5x10 x 35lbs

  4. curl to press, 2 chains each side 5x10

  5. chain squats all sets done with no rest. started with one chain on my neck, did 10 reps, then had my buddy add a chain until, did 10 more reps, etc. until i had 5 chains on me. then i had him take a chain off after ever set of ten, until i was down to 1 chain again. this was 100 reps in under 4 minutes. huge pump in my upper thighs and low back

  6. fat man chins using v-bar attachment, 3x10

this type of workout i know wont make me very big and strong, but i did whip me into shape, i felt like i was building some muscle, and got my heart pumping big time. afterwords, i feel very different than a typical workout, i feel fresh and invigorated, my nervous system does not feel as fried.

it was a beautiful day outside, got some sun, enjoyed the good weather, had a great day.

did not know what i was thinking today, cept i felt like pulling, so i pulled and pulled.

  1. powerclean 100kgx3, 110kgx1, 100kgx3, 110kgx1, 100kgx3, 120kgx1
  2. clean high pulls 130kgx3.
  3. clean pulls(think of a super strict deadlift, starting with your hips in a real low position and keeping the hips under the bar for the entire lift, double overhand hook grip) 200kgx5, 210kgx2
  4. chins 5x10
  5. chest supp rows, 3x10
  6. hammer iso lat pulldown 2 plates x 10, 3 plates x 6
  7. dips 3x10
  8. pushpups, 100 reps as fast as possible. just under 6 minutes.
  9. tabata on airdyne bike
  10. prowler “the fighter” 2 minutes continuous pushing, 1 minute rest x 3 rounds.

An ok day. Hoping for more but wtf I’m old.
BB rows 135X12,225X10X2
DL 225X3,315X3,405X3,455X3,500X3
mid shin 500X3,545X3,585
db row 120X12X3
Have a great week. Going on a biz trip, not sure about workouts. Heading to McAllen, TX.

not so good day today.

felt something tear in my left shoulder warming up with military presses. could not do any more pressing, so i decided to blast my arms and back some.

  1. barbell curls 130lbx6
  2. machine overhead triceps extensions, 3x20
  3. incline dumbbell curls 50x6
  4. triceps pushdowns 3x33
  5. hammer iso lat pulldown, 3 plates each side x 6
  6. dumbbell row, 2x10x110
  7. lateral raises/front raises/rear raises 20lb db, 10 reps each x 2 rounds.
  8. prowler, 6 sprints, thought i was going to have a heart attack.

bodyweight up a bit, 232, but looking leaner i think.

ugh… wtf? bodyweight 237 today!

  1. deadlift, 555x1, 425x10
  2. shrugs 1x20x320
  3. muscle cleans 2x15x70kg
  4. one leg squats, 3x20x45lbs
  5. abds 2x10
  6. tabata airdyne bike

done!

Went to Gold’s in McAllen, TX today. Had some fun. Lot’s of eye candy. Walking in paid 15.00 and busted out laughing. Some muscle heads were doing shugs on the smith machine with 2 plates a side. the kid running my card said What’s up and I pointed at them. 2 funny. Place was packed.

Bench 2 grips close and med 135X15,225X12,275X8,315X4 2 sets each grip
RDL worked up to 475
some kind of row machine only held 5 plates a side, tried to add more weight
fancy t-bar row machine worked up to 10 plates some in front and some behind, like the machine want to fill it one day
hammer bench of some kind worked up to 5 a side
sweatin like an old fat man, at this time they thought I was from Mars
hammer curls 70X12X2,80X8
Show’s over, wait 'til this weekend!

Thanks if you would have been there I would have kicked it up a notch. I called Jimmy T and I had him in tears. The best to ya.

Yesterday, back at Gold’s. Had to cut it short due to heading for a BUFFET at South Padre island after mass.
Buffet was spiritual, prime rib, crab legs, shrimp 3 ways, scallops, blackened fish, hushpuppies, taters, veggies, etc, and a fresh fruit salad to die for. Prior to the feast:
leg press wu 4 platesX20, 6X20,8X20,9X20 was going higher but tired of missing with the plates
no chalk facility so I used straps and did partials from first peg around mid-shin. Was sock footed, I’m such a non-comformist
315X3,405X3,495X3,545X3,585X3
GM 135X10,225X6,315X6,365X6
Fun’s over time was to head to the island. What a meal, 18.99 plus a few cervezas. Going to see Jimmy T 2 times in May. Alert the locals.

damn, you said it Hel…me and the lady are going through some rough shit…i need a day of heavy lifting followed by a food-gasm. I’m jealous.

last few:

sat- prowler, 6 trips
sunday - prolwer, 6 trips
yesterday: pec/shoulder injury still there, not as bad, so i took it easy-

chins 50 reps/dips 100 reps, as fast as possible for the chins this tood about 5 sets, for dips 4 sets

curl to press, standing, 2 chains each hand…;5x10

band triceps pushdowns 100reps

been strict on the diet last few…no energy for prowler after this workout…bw 226.7. ALMOST to my goal 220!!!

HT I feel fatter every time you post. It’s 50/50 I will move to McAllen. Being 80 minutes from Padre Island is a lure but my spanish is very challenged. Haven’t found the gym yet. Got a 3 day pass from a artsy fartsy gym. Went once yesterday probably won’t go back. No chalk, sweating is tolerated but frowned upon, puking would mean a 60 day probation, you know. A guy asked why my bench grip was so close? So I won’t post the workout and we can drop this one altogether.

A blessed week to all the wackos that visit us.

Talked my way into another gym. Gold’s wanted another 15.00. This place is not for me but free is. Won’t supply all the details. Highlights:
legpress 900X10
RDL 565X8 liked to kill me, right down quad to midshin
unassisted pullover 220X8
Back to Lubbock tomorrow via Midland/Odessa. May move to McAllen, need to speak spanish. Back is really trashed, b een to the well often lately. Good news is no injury except the normal crap. Where’s my buddy Art?

barry your rdl is sick.

last few days have been pretty shitty, as i am nursing a shoulder injury and last tuesday i hurt a hamstring dealing with a combative patient.

last week-

thursday- tabata airdyne bike

friday- high rep bullshit on machines for upper body

sat- rest

sunday- prowler 3 minutes on, 1 minute rest, x 3 rounds

today- military press, 5x10x135
dumbell press 5x10x70lbs
incline close grip barbell bench press 5x10x155lbs
db rows, 150x10, 90x22
barbell curls 2x10x95
prowler, 6 tripsx 6 plates

I feel the shoulder thing. 105# dbs press last week kind of tweaked my left wing. The RDLs I can get my hips in the right position and jam it. Walking a couple of steps is challenging so I wrap the knees. If I could get it going from the floor, DREAMING! Today:
ez curls barX20,105X12,125X6,145X6,165X6,175X3
chest sup row 3platesX12,4X10,5X10 straps hands a little bad after curls, major hand issues, spurs, deposits, callouses, fingers don’t act right won’t straighten
bench 135X15,225X12,275X8,315 X3 shoulder whining
wrist, ab roller
See ya all.

Barry, my left shoulder was giving me a lot of grief so I switched from regular bench to close grip bench only. My numbers are down but no more shoulder pain. Took a month or so for the pain to go away.

HT, my wife is a nurse and pulled a hamstring helping a patient who had fallen. Hope you heal up soon.

thats exactly what happened, an altered combative pt literally threw herself to the ground in a fit to get attention from her sig other while i was helping her back from the bathroom, i lurched quickly to catch her and POP.

today…

prowler with the LOW handles, 6 sprints of 40 yards.

first real low body day since the recent hamstring injury, this is 8 days out from the day i popped it.

pulling was out of the question, dl with just 135 was a no go. back extensions were also no. any good stretch on the ham was no-no.

so i did some light high rep squats. i played with my stance and depth and bar position and hand position until found a combination that was comfortable.

  1. squat-worked up to 110kgx10 reps. cant pull right now, maybe i can use this time to rebuild my squat?

the bad knee felt good with the wider toes out stance, so did my back.

  1. leg press, 2 plates x 50, 4 plates x 30, 6 plates x20

  2. heavy standing pulldown abds, 3x8

  3. tabata on leg press machine with 2 plates. this was surreal. basically did almost 100reps in just under 4 minutes. (raining, so no prowler)

stretched the quads and bad wheel, done!
