How to Lift Early in the Morning?

I train at 6AM everyday. I make my breakfast the night before so I can eat as soon as I’m up.

Alarm at 4:45

Eating by 4:50

Read and digest for around 30-35 minutes

Leave for the gym by 5:50

Under the iron by 6:00

my CNS brings all the boys to the yard…

I have a double shot of coffee btw, with lot of sweety-tabs (those cyclamate-saccharinate thingy) and HOT AS HELL.

It gaves me explosive diarrhoea, I loose 3-4 pounds on the toilet, and with an empty GIT? it’s wonderful to lift

i used to train early in the mornings then i moved to a bit later and now i train in the evenings…

i heard that you are taller first thing in the morning than you are just before you go to bed at night. that the joints relax and separate when you sleep since the body is laid out. that during the day things settle more, making you a bit shorter.

it might take a little longer to warm-up to loads since i guess loading is going to help the joints settle a bit faster.

but i dunno. lots of people do seem to manage morning training just fine, though. trouble with me is that i really like to sleep after training.

Funny that this thread came up, yesterday was the first day of school for me and I had to overhaul my sleep cycle and workout at 6:00am.

I’ve NEVER woken up before 5:30 (unless from jetlag) and I still managed a squat workout.

Aside from being slightly out of breath faster everything seems the same.

Yes, early bird catches the worm. Looks like our friendly “Bird” may starve.

I suppose at the moment due to my work schedule Im all over the place, some days I have to wake up at 5 and then other days I can wake up at 7…In the new year I might get a more steady work schedule and can get up and train at a normal time every day.

I’ve heard that this sort of thing (depression/stress/disorganisation etc) can cause psychotic episodes.

Maybe something to watch out for

Thanks for the tip buddy. Thats exactly the reason Im seriously considering moving to a smaller town so I can do less work, in a more reasonable time-table, and have more time to work out, and at consistant times.

Which brings up the hypothetical question; how would you choose between making a million dollars and not working out, or would you choose a average salary with the ability to work out every day?

tweet tweet

million dollars a year but no working out?

or

45K a year and working out every day?

do these salaries stay constant? Do I ever get a chance to make more than 45K if I choose option number 2?

Yes, thats right buddy. Salaries increase only with inflation. If you choose option 2 you have no chance of making more than the average salary.

Pick one.

I hope I’m showing this thread the respect it deserves by asking:

Is jacking off considered a workout?

In my case, money has never been a focus or motivator. I choose the latter.

In undergrad we lifted at 6am every day. warm up consisted of bear crawls, crab walks, squat jumps and all sorts of plyos… My problem was that my stomach took about an hour to wake up and then I had to take a 10 minute “rest” halfway into the workout. Now I lift in the evening.

No. Wankadoodling is not a workout. However, your not allowed to wankadoodle or take part in sexual activity that may promote hypertrophy. For example you can not do push-ups while having sex.

then i choose option number 1

How about HTFU

Seriously, try having a really hot shower as soon as you get up, than smash a coffee 20-min before you hit the weights. You should also have a light stretch and warm-up before you hit the weights to loosen up a bit, you will get use to it eventually.

Wow this threads taking quite a philosophical turn…prepare to be enlightened! (lol)

I think about this kind of subject quite a lot, and in the end you’ve got to ask yourself, “what is life?” If life means spending time with family and friends, giving of your time and helping people out, enjoying sports/hobbies, taking walks on the beach etc…do you need to be rich for that?

If you want to be rich, why? What’s after that? Is it going to support your endeavour to enjoy life (i.e. life is NOW, not just 20+ years away), or is it going to get in the way? Do you want to be rich to be happy? Can you not enjoy life while making the most of what you have (e.g. simplify your life)?

This is why I’m working towards becoming self-sufficient(ish) - I love nature (kind of in touch with my hippy side!), I love being independent (in the process of renovating my house to be very low energy…little electric/heating etc).

To me, your job should support life, not the other way around. It doesn’t matter if you’re a janitor, or a millionaire, the way you perceive things makes all the difference.

I like the way you think buddy.
I suppose I am aiming to became self-sufficient aswell. I want to be debt free, have a vege patch and chickens in the back yard and enjoy the simple things of life. I am about to move away from my home town to a small country town about 5 hours drive away in the attempt the simplify things and have more time for myself.

Rambodian- I like to foam roll and mobilise before working out, and that can often take me 45 minutes! So that also makes working out in the morning difficult, especially if I want to be done by 7ish.

You can talk about being self sufficient, but at some point you’re going to have bills to pay. The whole idea is to find one thing you’re good at and never do it for free. You do this because its more efficient to do that one thing and pay for other things to be done by those who are better at them. Which ideally would give you more time than struggling with things that you suck at, which therefore waste your workout time. philosophize that.
