How To Fight

You could just learn to be a ninja. Then you could flip out and wail on people. Just make sure you learn the electric guitar or you won’t get anywhere being a ninja…

Whoever fucking thinks that martial arts is going to help you beat ass… Please. Maybe 5+ years will help and not that much if you’re a little guy.

Yeah, I got my black belt in TKD. I still get my ass pounded. I suggest you quit being a vag and try to avoid getting beat up.

There is one piece of information that appears to be missing from this thread. Unless you love the adrenaline rush and exhilaration of a physical confrontation with an unknown combatant you are not likely to be very successful in street fighting. Most skills learned by timid fighters are quickly abandoned in the heat of combat.

I guess the best advice, which has already been mentioned, is hit first and hit hard. Other than that remember a lot of fights can be won by manipulating the situation to your advantage. I am mainly talking about surroundings here, if your or a “rangy” fighter and you find yourself in the midst of a confrontation in a bar, tell the guy lets take it outside so you can move around. If you are not “rangy” try to keep in close quarters. However, if all else fails hit first and hit hard.

The Krav Maga is nice. A good workout and IMO very applicable. One Caveat. I, due to my own lack of focus have wound up with my fingers beat to shit and they hurt contstantly. (From holding the pads wrong, being lazy…etc.) I agree with the Tae Kwan do assessments. Korean for “How to get your ass kicked.” Wrestling and Boxing are both good. YOur 16…go wrestle and lift and condition young man.

I also agree about avoiding fights. What’s the point? Gain respect thru example and reputation. But train to kill.

Fight. Thats about it. Martial arts will give you some attributes, and combat sports will give you some attributes faster. But nothing teaches like experience. Ask any doorman who’s worth his salt. They will tell you that only experience allowed those attributes to emerge. So instead, learn something that you like, that will give you some attributes and avoid fights. Fighting doesn’t make you tough in my opinion. Or become a doorman and learn to fight the only legal way. But I must admit, old school things like wrestling(in all its forms) and boxing(in all its forms) will get you those attributes without any b.s. But mostly its in your head anyway, and that can’t be taught. Just my 2 cents.

being strong fast and studing how to fight will help. but nothing will help more then just knowing you will win. all the great fighters say the same thing. i always knew i would win. i am unbeatable. alot of it is mental. unless they have a gun then its duck and run. but in the meant ime boxing and wrestling are all you need. throw in some one handed snatches and oull ups and then kick ass

Accept that in order to hurt your enemy, you too will have to endure some pain.

Do it with goal directed behavior…all the way.

Give it your all…don’t doubt yourself

But be smart and don’t lose your head.

I’ve never seen anyone win a street fight with martial arts nor has anyone beat me with martial arts. Most of the time the individual picks a fight but only knows enough of his discipline to get his head kicked in.

The disciplines discussed above are worthwhile in the sense that they will get you in shape and help you with focus, flexibility, power, balance, and all around awareness of your body. I’m impressed with a lot of different styles and love to see fights where the fighters are at the top of their game. A lot of those guys can do some amazing shit, no doubt.

But I firmly believe that in order to issue out an ass whoopin on the street there should be the following attributes in your repitior.

A. Readiness:
It’s go-time, fight or flight, put the women and children to bed and be 100% committed to settle things right now.

B. Confidence:
Do whatever it is that you do to get that swagger and attain that feeling of invincibility. (music, mantras, slap yourself, whatever)

C. Awareness:
Know if there are beer bottles, bats, sticks, trash cans, mud, cars, crowds, windows, cops etc. Know your surroundings, take a snapshot of said “combat zone.”

D. Commitment:
If you’re entering into any sort of conflict, be prepared to go the distance and do whatever it takes. If he has long hair, pull it out. If he’s got you in a headlock, bite the fuck out of him. If he’s fending off your punches, tackle him and beat his head off the concrete.

I’m not saying that you should depend on these 4 attributes and not practice or study the pugilistic arts. but in my experience these 4 attributes are necessary in being effective “outside the square circle.” Every time I’ve got my ass whipped (which was often before I wised up and learned a few things) it was usually because I didn’t bring everything I had to the table.
