Wow the "grow up " argument, how pathetic of you.Its so obvious that you aren’t in touch with the reality and you choose to flame me cause you probably have nothing better to do when eating your double mc chicken extra large cheeseburger.
I think he was being sarcastic…i.e. “Not Sarcasm”.

No, I wasn’t. knee jerk responses like AngryChicken’s are stupid. You don’t know the kid’s situation, and moving out and “getting a job” at 18 might have worked 40 years ago, it’s not as easy now.
If you want to make life more difficult for yourself by moving out and starting from the bottom of the barrel, suit yourself. If you’re not an idiot, you’ll use the situation to your advantage. Yes, your parents are idiots, probably. Buy your own food or educate your parents.

Also, it’s very possible that you’re an idiot yourself, wolfguywhatever. Figure it out, and talk it out with them.

I’d agree moving out might not be smart but at the very least he should get a job and buy his own shit and take care of his own shit. The only advantage to living with your parents is being able to save money, but you gotta make some first

I figured something like this.

Moving out, supporting yourself, is a lesson in independence. My personal view is it’s important to have that experience somewhere, somehow, in order to be able to work better interdependently. That it’s better to spend some time bucking the system so you can understand what you do and don’t get from being part of it.

Or in this case, to have a better understanding where he fits into things beyond “they’re my parents, they should do X,Y,Z”.

I have no problem with the idea of using the situation to his advantage, but I think it’s better to do it when he actually understands how advantageous the situation really is. It sounds like this is all he knows and he has no other frame of reference. I think that’s the bigger problem. I.e., “entitled”.

So I suppose I’m somewhat agreeing with everyone here.

Tell us why.

I was also curious about that. It’s certainly different now, but I can’t figure out why it’s any easier or harder.

It isn’t. That’s just an excuse the under 30 crowd likes to use.

My grand father’s generation lied so they could fight in the Pacific. My generation can’t be bothered to find a job because (insert excuse here).

It’s fucking sad really.

LoRez:

Sure, but jumping at a kid (“entitled shit”) because he complained about his parents is a bit exaggerated. I know this is the internet but I expected more from a site like T-Nation. Jokes aside:

-Cost of housing is higher
-Cost of tuition is MUCH higher
-Salaries/wages are not much higher than they were before + low interest rates.
-Worth of tuition (over-educated/certified/qualified) is lower since markets are over saturated with degrees. Seems now you need a degree just to be able to use a public restroom. This is coming from a guy who did a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Thing about degrees is they take a few years and a few 10s of thousands of dollars to acquire.
-Saturation of job market and less job security. Not as many positions as there are people, plus people retiring later or working more.

^Taking in to account inflation.

Does that mean you can’t make it? No. It just means that you can’t quite get that start in life you could in the 60s, 70s or 80s. Yes, plenty of people have families, etc, but it’s not as easy as a lot of the older crowd make it out to be. “Kids today are lazy”, “kids today are entitled” and other misinformed bullshit given their lack of understanding of the requirements of today’s world.

You can find a lot of stories about this stuff online: The Unluckiest Generation: What Will Become of Millennials? - The Atlantic
The comments are worth reading. I’m sure a lot of you aren’t in my age group, so you haven’t had a chance to live through (and living through it still) it, so these articles may be the only way for some of you to “understand”. Others (idiots like usmccds423) will come out of the wood work, and bitch and moan that recent generations are lazy entitled shits, etc.

Because they are and you can go fuck your self.

AW YEAH FACT BASED COMMENTS.

Lol, like that vague post you made above?

God damn, if you think my post was vague, you must have a seriously hard time figuring women out. I feel for you, brah.

Well, I’ve been married for going on 8 years and I still haven’t figured one woman out.

What that has to do with your post having not 1 fact in it is beyond me. It was just vague enough to sound intelligent, but what do I know. I’m just am idiot though, right?

Oh they weren’t, huh?

I made $2.20 hr back in the late 70’s working a minimum wage job. The same job today pays $9 - $12. Prime interest rates were in the teens.

Don’t try and pass on falsh shit here, punk. Ignoramuses like you need to STFU.
From what I have read the buying power of $1 was around $6.

I agree. My son has been steadily working since he was 16 (20 now) and now has two jobs while going to college. Same as me 25 years ago. I see no difference in opportunity. Difference in work, that I do see. I made a lot of money waiting tables, bar tending and running restaurants. Today the money seems less in those areas. My son’s passion is photography and editing. So he started working for wedding photographers as a gopher, offered his movie making and editing skills to small businesses and helped them with marketing themselves on their websites. Not 9-5, I admit, but he’s pulling in 1-2 grand a month while going to college full time. Not too shabby.

He eats whatever the fuck he wants
