Sounds like he is seting himself up for some serious muscle imbalances. He is simply looking to get bigger show muscles. This is a sure fire way to damage your shoulders and low back. I know, I was one of those guys until I began to break down.
If he doesnt like squats, do lunges, they are the next best thing.

Hahaha. I knew people would be all ‘you have to squat’
Sure. If you want to.
But I have a client right now whose legs are huge. Great detail, development, the works. And this is just from running every few days.
So I give him a few high rep sets on leg press and that’s it.
There is no need to squat. There are other ways to hit the ‘core’ which are more efficient. I don’t think many people squat for their abs.
It comes down to working right for your frame to create a balanced physique.
Some people don’t need to do certain exercises.

Sxio,
I’m not doubting your opinion here but this sounds like a purely cosmetic way to look at it. What else do you include in his training to help improve his balance, flexibility, and neural recruitment?
Personally, I find squats to be a great tool for assessment and a great exercise for everyone, regardless of size.

Look. Yes it’s true. But if your legs are already huge, why do squats?
Yes squats will help out your upper body, but they’re known as the king of lower body exercises for a reason.
If the guy’s legs are huge, squatting is only going to make them bigger. [/quote]
Depends what his definition of “huge legs” is. He might have 24" thighs, which most of us would consider less than ideal. I think huge would be like 30"+. I think he is just lazy and doesn’t want to deal with the effort of doing squats, might come back to bite him in the future.
I would just look at is as one less person to get in my way at the squat rack. Anyone that does squats right knows they work your whole body because you get sore all over.
