Ive heard the body will only absorb about 30g of protein at a time, so taking a 50-60g protein shake is a waste of money… how true is this?
the minimum ratio it’s 1.7g per pound of body weight, so i don’t think so.

Wow, the body has improved in the last few years. Not too long ago it could only “absorb” 20 g protein. Way to go body.
A few more years and it can handle 200g in one sitting.
Are people this unable to think logically?
What defines one sitting? If I eat a meal, then get up and move, 5 mins later eat another meal, that’s 2 sittings right? Or is there some definite time frame here?
What happens once you eat 30.1g of protein. That .1 is suddenly too much for the body to handle?
How much carbs can the body handle at once? Fat? Why is protein so mysterious?
speak up protein, we’re tired of this and I want to know.
Don’t believe everything you read.

Absolute numbers/figures for how many grams of protein the body can absorb at one time are ridiculous. Are they suggesting that a 100 lb person will be able to absorb the same amount of protein as a 300 lb person? Are those numbers taking into account lean mass? BMR? Activity levels? Other nutrients being ingested along with the protein?
No. And generally they aren’t based on any real world evidence either, and almost never (probably never ever) done with bodybuilders in mind (or as their test subjects).

Ahh shit - someone should tell Ronnie he’s just gonna waste all that.

If I got protein for free, I’d do that too, lol.
And see, this is what happens when you eat too much protein in one sitting. You get a “protein” gut, not GH gut
How Much is Too Much Protein?
1 gram past the amount you need to complete recovery, and maintain all of your metabolic processes.

total bullshit and a complete misunderstanding of digestion
Animal proteins have over 95% digestibility.
A larger protein meal will simply sit in the stomach for longer and take longer to digest. That’s all there is to it.
As far as intake, there is controversy over this. 1g/lb lean body mass for a natural lifter is a standard recommendation.
Increasing protein while dieting is also a good idea for a variety of reasons.
That depends, if your stomach is messed up from stress and eating foods you may be intolerant or allergic to, the absorption of protein will be limited regardless of dose.
Conversely, if your stomach is running optimally, you may be able to absorb far more protein than the maximum amount you would truly benefit from.
For most people who are working out, the range from 1-2g per pound is usually where most people will thrive on, with the lower end for people who are carb tolerant or training a little. The high end is for those who are training heavy or with high physical activity levels at work.
Athletes who are training hard can actually require more than this amount, due to their caloric requirement being extremely high. When compared to a normal exercising person the intake may seem astounding, but when you look at how much tissue is turned over, it doesn’t seems so extreme. Tissue remodification is extremely energy expensive.
More important than focusing on the amount per meal is to ensure that you are getting that amount of protein consistently day to day (+/- 20%). If you meals vary by 10g from the per meal amount that is fine. It is also fine if it is a half meal eaten more often, as long as the general macronutrient ratio fits your diet and you have made goos food choices.
As for your question of truth, there is no truth, only what your body does and does not do. Only careful experimentation can give you an answer that is appropriate for you.
With the protein shake, focus on purchasing quality protein. Using protein shakes such as Metabolic Drive or the like will allow you to get more benefits from 40g per serving versus 50-60g of cheap whey of a blend that has little casein in it.
and the debate rages on…

That’s the minimum huh? Have you found this out through precise experimental investigation over your entire 1 year of training? Or did you read it somewhere on the internet and just assume it’s gospel?

funny how no one is debating here. It’s like this myth just won’t die.
How long is a piece of string?
you absorb all of the protein you eat…but where does it go? too much will be stored as fat.
