How Much Fish Oil/Omega 3s?

I’ve posted a couple of threads about my health issues in the past so I won’t go into great detail again and bore everyone. The cliff notes are as follows.

Auto-Immune issues are rampant in my family
I have what is believed to some auto-immune issues but haven’t been clearly diagnosed by the doc’s yet.
I have alopecia barbae that has been diagnosed
I have hormonal issues that have not been clearly diagnosed yet, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that there’s a problem

I’ve really been putting off taking measures to fix the problems (other than cutting out all the shit food) because I was hoping to work with some alternative doctors get full blood work done and take a more holistic approach to fixing my issues. However as of right now financially I just can’t do that.

So I figure attacking the issues little by little will eventually add up to the big picture fix I’m needing.

Anyways I know that in the case of auto-immune issues and alopecia barbae usually the person has high inflammation issues. I’m looking to start supplementing fish oil to combat that but I was wondering how much I should take.

The supps are going to be Flameout and the norweigan cod liver oil, was even thinking of taking hemp seed oil but I don’t know much about that yet.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys

fish oil would just be one small piece of the puzzle.

How’s your gut health in general? The reason I ask is I made an effort to fix my gut and all my little health issues - everything from nagging injuries (which I believe now were down to chronic systemic inflammation) to sleep quality - seem to have all but disappeared.

I’m not a doctor mate but it might be worth a shout.

I have no idea how my gut health is, actually I don’t even know how I would test for it. Any suggestions?

A lot of it is simply eating different foods, seeing how your body reacts to them and cutting out the ones that make you feel terrible.

For instance I stay the fuck away from milk

Hey Phoenix. My wife has some autoimmune diseases (Celiacs, raynaud’s, and others suspected). So I’ve researched a bit about some of these and, as you state, inflammation is a recurring suspect. I am not sure on the dosage of fish oil, but I shoot for 3g of EPA/DHA combined each day. I don’t take Flameout due to financial constraints, but there are some good liquid options out there that won’t break the bank.

While the wife isn’t very good about regularly taking these, I try to include the following: fish oil, Vit D (5k - 10k IU/day), curcumin, quercetin and some kind of multi. I’ve wanted her to try betaine (mostly because of the celiacs) but I haven’t followed up on it.

Raj offers great advice about diet. You should experiment by removing things from your diet for a period and try to track how you feel. Things like milk and gluten are two of the bigger ones that stand out.

Edit: forgot to mention baby aspirin (there’s debate about the value of this) and probiotics.

I did the experimentation process a few months ago. What I found was that my body really can’t handle processed food, or food with high sugar amounts. So I eliminated those out of my diet as much as I can.

Other than that I don’t have issues with anything I eat but I try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup, wheat, soy, and dairy because in my research I learned that those will have a negative affect on a persons body even without the symptoms.

It sucks because with the alopecia barbae I just have no fucking idea what caused it or what can get rid of it, and it’s been about 10 months now.
