How Much Do You Curl?

i don’t see why they call it “EZ curl” since it’s harder to curl with it than with a regular barbell, and curling with a regular barbell is difficult enough

no matter where i put my hands on the EZ curl bar the bar ends up rotating up and down through the curling motion making it very hard to concentrate on the actual curling motion ! if i stick to a regular barbell my wrists max out way before my biceps

this is why i have stuck to dumbbells for most of my curling, i do around 50lb x 5 for each arm

Best barbell I’ve done is 210x4.

Seems pretty strong dude.

Close grip steep preacher curls (Z bar)
45*x11
This is right now, I’ve been stronger but I look better.

So “X”, how much?

I guess about 115 for 5 or 6 at the end of a workout.

Some gym in my city (Taipei) that I don’t go to has an annual EZ curl bar competition…I saw the video and some guy did the EZ bar with a 45 on either side for 20.

I want to go beat him next year.

20 reps is alot. With a decent amount of weight, doing 15+ reps makes your biceps feel like they are gonna pop.
Yeah, the pump is incredi-popilicious. It disappointments me that I cant get the same pump in my triceps.

How important do people find the 15rep pump for inducing hypertrophy?

Also, how to people relate the stimulation for their biceps to their triceps?

For DB, do 45’s 8 times for 3 sets

Not sure about BB thought. I did do the bar + 45 (total) on an olympic at the end of my last workout 4 times for 2 sets.

I think this is weak and I recently incorporated an arms day to improve these numbers.

Also, what are the differences others have between traditional DB curls and Hammer curls? FWIW, I can manage 55’s 10 times. Does this seem in line?

I do 155 x 6 with slight swing for the last 2 reps, or 135 x 7-8 with great form. All fresh though. At the end of the bicep workout, I can barely manage 6 cheating reps with 135. And Even 10 strict reps with 105 is near impossible.

I only read the first page so far, but that curling the girl story is hilarious. I’ve used weightlifting correlation to determine girls’ weight before, but never with a curl haha

Seated DB curls of 8 reps using 75 lbs per arm; heavier if standing and doing one arm at a time.

Good post. There’s a reason straight bar curls are considered the best basic bicep builder - wrist pain notwithstanding.

just curious, what is harder to curl with a straight olympic bar or an ez bar?

It may be important to do it yourself and find out. I find the Olympic bar very damaging to the wrists but it actually hits the belly of my biceps properly. The ez-curl bar is easy on the wrists but I find it hits the biceps very little and all the work is being done by that piece of muscle that connects the upper arm to the lower arm at the elbow joint. Arnold was able to get away with the straight barbell curls and had great success. Try it out, maybe you will too!
I used to do 135 for ten (some cheat, not as much as some) until I got tennis elbow from it:)

Now I just do weighted pullups, BB and DB rows.

Dude…nice;)

Hm. Asa main mass-builder, Alt. DB curls (where you start in a hammer position and then supinate as far as possible when coming up) seem better than BB cuirls to me:
1)No/little wear and tear on the wrists
2)Hit the bicep well because you supinate as you go up, which covers both main functions of the biceps… (i.e. hit it better than EZ curls)

Incline Offset Curls or standing One-arm supinating curls are also great imo…
Or low cable curls, with a wide lat-pulldown type attachment using a wide grip and curling to the chin or forehead… Either leaning forward a bit or leaning back…

BB Drag curls (several ways to do those) are rarely done today but I like them as well…

I love barbell drag curls as well…the only downside is they make me look like a pussy. I doubt the average observer understands that a much more difficult variation is being performed.

Yah man those BB curls for any duration of time fuck me up. I did the sets of 210-215 for a few weeks, and my biceps tendons hated me. Had to take like 4 days off lol.

That’s what you get Pinwheel curls for.

130 lb DB’s for high reps and relatively little cheating, here I come :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That happens when people try to curl about 40 lbs more than they should be doing :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Gotta say though, I dislike the straight bar as well.
Who cares, enough alternatives.

Besides, you aren’t supposed to pull with your biceps on back moves unless you want even worse tendonitis (or tendon impingement in case of chins) down the line.

Agreed on the alt DB curl (assume you meant twisting). Pinwheel curls rock for a bber tho.

I like cable curls (facing away from the station unless you’re directly over the pulley obviously).
No shit… And curling upwards of 120 per hand and still getting more reps in with decent form than others do with baby-weight is just such a huge ego-boost

Maybe I am a strange breed but I have never seen how much I can curl! I do progressive sets starting at 105 X 10 and usually end at 135 X 2. It doesn’t seem important to me, I am not even sure how much of a strength indicator it is???

But then again because I am getting older and things are breaking… like my back and now my knee…maybe I should start identifying with a max curl! Chicks probably dig it!

225x5 and 275 cheat curl, also a 21 with 135

very impressive.
